Mrs. Niederstadt's
Parent Letter

October 31, 2008

Dear Parents,

Enclosed is your child’s last math test.  I gave less support on this test.  The first page is a copy of your child’s test.  I graded this copy.  The second page is the original test.  We went over the test as a class and made any necessary changes.  Students were tested on counting tally marks, counting coins, telling time, addition and subtraction.  The last question on the test is not a good test question so we did it together.  The new unit is Visual Patterns, Number Patterns, and Counting.  Also enclosed is an overview of the new unit.  Please take a few minutes to read it over.

We’ve successful completed our first theme test.  Next week we will begin a new reading unit called “The World Outside My Door.”  It includes stories called My River, Citybook, and Listen to the Desert.  Also poems such as “Sleeping Outdoors,” and “I Love the World.”  Over the next few weeks, you will see four books come home: Our Plants, A Fish Trip, A Walk in the City and Hats Hats Hats.  These books will include new vocabulary words.   Enclosed is a list of the vocabulary words.

On Friday we will walk to the Onekama Public Library.  Please be sure that your child returns his/her books by Thursday because I’ll return book back to the library after school.  If your child’s books are returned, then he/she will be able to check out three new books.  We will leave at 11:45 and should return by 1:30 p.m.   If you are able to join us, then we would love your help.

Parent-teacher conferences are on Tuesday, Nov. 25th and Wednesday, Nov. 26th just before Thanksgiving.  Students will be dismissed early on Tuesday at 12:30 p.m.  Conferences begin at 5 – 8 p.m.  On Wednesday there is no school for students.  Conferences will be held from 8 – 11 a.m.  Please call Mary Bergren at 889-9674 to make your appointment.

For those of you who like to shop online, I’ve learned about a new website that will benefit our school.  This website is Box Tops for Education.   They have links to other popular web sites such as Target, Lands End, Limited Too, Disney, GAP, Shutterfly, and many others.  They donated a percentage of the sale back to our school.  You will need to sign up in order for us to receive the benefits.  Please check out the following web site:
