Mrs. Niederstadt's Parent Letter

October 17, 2008

 Dear Parents,

As you may have noticed by our last several Friday Folders, I’ve recruited help from the class.  I used to stuff them by myself, but it takes too much of my preparation time.  Now students help me pass out papers and put them into their own Friday Folder.  Students learn to read each others’ names plus this is a great time saving for me.  Students are supposed to check each paper before putting it into their folder, but some papers do get into the wrong folder.  If you get another student’s paper, then please send it to school in your child’s folder.   I’ll be sure it gets to the right owner.

On Thursday, Oct. 23rd the Onekama Public Library is hosting a Halloween Craft Day from 12-6 p.m.  There will be cookies and punch too.  Be sure to mark your calendar.

On Friday, Oct. 24th our class along with Mrs. Lyman’s class is going to decorate pumpkins.  Mr. & Mrs. Mallison have graciously donated pumpkins.  Please be sure to dress your child appropriately.  We will use washable paint along with other glueable items.  If you have any craft items in your house and would like to donate them, then please free to send them to school with your child.

We will plant bulbs in the school yard.  It was originally scheduled for today, but our coordinator, Kim Schaefer was hospitalized for pneumonia.   We will plant them next Friday.  It would be helpful to send in a pair of gloves and a trowel for him/her.  If you are able to join us, then we would love your help from 12:30 – 2:30 p.m.  Please dress your child in old painting and planting bulb clothing.

Our Michigan weather is unpredictable as we change from fall to winter.  Please be sure your child is dressed appropriately.  Students should have a coat and hat with them everyday.  Once our winter weather is upon us, your child will need a winter coat, hat, gloves, snow pants, snow boots, and a pair of inside shoes.

Our Halloween party is Friday, October 31st at 11:45 to 3:00 p.m. Students’ costumes need to come to school in a bag with their name on it.  If your child has a weapon as part of his/her costume, it needs to stay at home.  The following people have volunteered Letha Harnick, Renee Johnson, Brooke Keys, Patricia Snyder and Jason Torrey.  You will be in charge of an art project so please come to the room at 11:30 a.m. for instructionsLisa Gutowski, Brooke Keys, Patricia Snyder, and Jason Torrey are providing treats.  For those providing treats, please let me know ahead of time so we don’t duplicate treats.  Currently Mrs. Gutowski is bringing a spider web treat (chocolate & peanut butter).  I would like to have a mixture of sweets and healthy treats.  Patty Acker is providing drinks.  Kendra Mallison is providing cups and plates.   Please note that we will not have a costume parade as we’ve had in years past.

During the winter months students should come to school in their snow boots and switch to their inside shoes at school.  Once it is time for recess students will change from inside shoes to snow boots and of course the same will happen at last recess.  This process avoids us from sitting on wet and dirty carpet, but I’ve noticed that several students are unable to tie their shoes so this process will be very difficult for them.  Please spend some time with your child over the next several weeks before the wintry weather begins. This skill will not be taught at school.

We have a classroom web site.  Be sure to visit our web site at http://www.onekama.k12.mi.us/e2009/Mrs.Niederstadt/index.htm
