Mrs. Niederstadt's Parent Letter

May 29, 2009

Dear Parents,

Today we walked to the Onekama Public Library.  This was our last trip for this year; we did not check out any books.  If your child returned his/her books, then enclosed is your child’s Manistee County Library card.  These cards are good at all Manistee County Library branches: Arcadia, Bear Lake, Kaleva, Manistee, Onekama and Wellston.  All library branches offer a wonderful reading program complete with prizes and wonderful programs such as scrapbooking, planting, painting, drawing, crafts, speakers, and of course story hours during the summer months.   You should have received their schedule in the last Friday folder.

Yesterday we went to Moomer’s Ice Cream in Traverse City.  As always everyone had a wonderful time.  The weather was a bit drizzly, but it didn’t stop us.

On Tuesday we will participate in Good Behavior Field Day.  It is from 12:00 – 2:30 p.m. on the football field.  In order to be prepared for the weather, you may want to send in a coat/sweater, water bottle and hat with your child.  Also it would be a good day to have sun block on.  The Lions Club will provide hot dogs, popcorn, and pop for an afternoon snack.  Volunteers help make this day a great success.  If you are able to lead an event/activity, then please contact the office.

On Wednesday students need to bring an extra bag.  They will take their belongings home.

Thursday is our last day of school.  After lunch we will walk to get ice cream.  I am working on sealing one of two deals: Blue Slipper Bakery or Teddy & Annie’s.  Students will use their money from their money holders.  At the beginning of the year you sent in (2) quarters, (10) dimes, (5) nickels, and (20) pennies.  During the school year a few coins may have been lost, please send in $1.00 for your child to use in addition to their money.  Students will be responsible for counting out their money to purchase ice cream.  Afterwards we will go to the Onekama Village Park to spend the remainder of our day.  We will return back to the school at 2:30 p.m.  Please note that your child’s report card will come home in his/her Friday folder.  If you have any questions, then please feel free to call me on Friday until noon.

Enclosed is your child’s spelling test and spelling graph.  The test consists of ninety words that your child should know by the end of first grade.  Your child took this test in January.  Any misspelled words were your child’s individualized spelling words.  Recently I gave this test again to see our growth.  Most students are above average.  First grade average is 68 words out of 90, which is 75%.  During the summer you may want to practice any misspelled words.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our classroom helpers: Mrs. Acton (School Store), Mrs. Johnson (Monday Helper), Mrs. Dutton (Thursday Helper), and Mrs. Tolin (Class Store).  They have been wonderful helpers throughout the year.  I appreciate them taking time out of their busy schedules for us.  Next week our schedule will be winding down.  There were be cleaning, packing and organizing days so our classroom helpers will not be needed.  THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN!!

The following are dates that you may want to add to your calendar:

  • Good Behavior Field Day – June 2
  • Last Day of School – June 4

Warmly,
Mrs. N
