Mrs. Niederstadt's
Parent Letter
May 1, 2009

Dear Parents,

Yesterday your child took his/her last spelling test.  Your child’s test will come home on Monday.  Next week I am giving an end of the year spelling assessment.  Your child’s results will be included in his/her last report card.

Enclosed is your child’s number scroll.  Students have worked very hard for the last several months.  Each day we begin our math with review called Math Boxes.  Once students have completed their math boxes, then they are able to work on their number scrolls.  Most students made it over 1000!  Those students earned a quarter for class store.  Great work to everyone!!  I’ve enclosed their current number scroll sheet and a blank one to continue over the summer months.

Also we’ve completed Unit 8.  Students took the math assessment last Monday.  We reviewed the questions and answers together on Tuesday.  Your child’s test is enclosed.  The class average is 81%.  On Wednesday we began Unit 9: Place Value and Fractions.  Enclosed is the new family letter.  Please review.

This week in science we’ve discussed solid earth.  Solid earth discusses the Earth materials that occur in nature include rocks, minerals, soils, water, and gases of the atmosphere.  Some Earth materials have properties which sustain plant and animal life.  Next week we will discuss physical science.  All objects and substances have physical properties that can be measured.  We’ll discuss states of matter: solids, liquids, and gases.  Then the following week we’ll discuss magnets.

In gym class we are going to start learning about tennis.  We do have tennis rackets, but they are not the right size for us.  If you already have a child-sized racket at home, would you please send it in with your child?  I’ll keep them in a box here at school until we are finished with our tennis unit.  If not, then your child can use one from the school.

Just a friendly reminder about the money for Moomer’s is due on Friday, May 22nd.  Students are responsible for a fee of $4.00 to receive a guided tour and cup or cone of their famous homemade ice cream.  Please send it in an envelope with your child’s name on it.   Parents are welcome to attend.  If you’re interested, then you will need to include your fee of $4.00 in your child’s envelope.  Please label the envelope accordingly.   I would prefer cash, but checks can be made out to Moomer’s, if necessary.

Spring pictures are enclosed in your child’s folder.  New this year we have a proof package.  If you wish to purchase pictures, then fill out the form and return it to the office with payment for your order.  We will send them back to Lifetouch.  The pictures will be sent back to the school before the end of the year.
