Dear Parents,
The animal research projects look fantastic! I
took pictures of the students with their project last Monday. You can
visit our website at
http://www.onekama.k12.mi.us/

to see their pictures. The written reports should be coming soon. This
week we began transferring their animal information into their
hard-covered books (also known as BARE books) in the afternoon. We’ll
continue into next week. I hope we finish by the end of next week,
because I would like our class to buddy read our BARE books with Mrs.
Eichberger’s class. This would help us practice reading our books
before Young Author’s Night on Tuesday, March 24th. Attached
is the rubric that I used to grade your child’s project. If you have
any questions, please feel free to contact me.
Yesterday your child took our
Unit 5 written assessment (math test). Today we reviewed the answers.
Enclosed are your child’s results.
March is reading month. We
have many elementary activities planned throughout the month such as
newspaper day, book swap, read me day, PJ day and many others. Our
classroom will have its own activities such as Camp Read-A-Lot and a
field trip to Pizza Hut and the Manistee Public Library. Next week we
will have Newspaper Day on Monday. We’ll discuss what is inside a
newspaper. On Wednesday 8th grade students will read us a
story. On Thursday we’ll read about a famous person. On Friday we’ll
have a book swap. Please bring a gently used book to swap with a friend
in our classroom.
On Wednesday,
March 11th will have a presentation by Michigan State University
Extension about leader dog school. This is a Manistee County 4-H
sponsored program that raises leader dogs for the blind. Students will
learn about raising puppies, training leader dogs, and watch a leader
dog in action. Our presentation will be from 9:00-9:30 in the media
center.

On Friday,
March 13th we will go to Pizza Hut for lunch to celebrate
everyone reaching his or her goal for all six months of the Book-It
program. Congratulate your child on a job well done! Your child will
be using her/her March Pizza Award Certificate to receive a personal pan
pizza; I have it at school. I will purchase the drinks. If your child
does not like pizza, then s/he can bring a packed lunch. Afterwards we
will visit the Manistee Public Library. We will tour the library and
have the opportunity to check out three books. We will leave the school
at 10:30 a.m. and should return to school at approximately 2:00 p.m. If
you are available to chaperone, then we would love to have you join us.
Kaleva Norman Dickson School,
Bear Lake School & Onekama Consolidated School proudly presents their
production of Wizard of Oz on April 23, 24 & 26 at Brethren High
School. Students from all three schools ranging from 4th to
12th grade have auditioned for various parts. Be sure to
mark your calendars!
Enclosed is a flyer from United
Way of Manistee County. They have a new program titled 2-1-1 to help
families in need. If you know someone who would benefit from this
program, then please pass this information on to them. The economy has
been really hard on some of our local families. I am thankful that they
have a program in place to help them and their family.
