Mrs. Niederstadt's
Parent Letter

March 20, 2009

Dear Parents,

Happy spring!  Today is the first day of spring.  We celebrated by having Camp Read-a-Lot.  It was more like Camp Eat-a-Lot.  Students enjoyed the many snack donations.  Thank you!!  I’ve already sent pictures to our web master.  Soon she’ll have the web page ready for viewing.

Speaking of spring, the weather will vary from day to day for the next several months.  Also keep in mind that we get a nice wind sitting on top of the hill.  Snow pants are no longer needed.  Boots/inside shoes are needed if the weather has been rainy.  This will minimize wet and muddy bottoms from sitting on our carpet.  Here are my expectations for proper attire:

  • 40s – coat, hat and gloves
  • 50s – coat and hat
  • 60s (lower) – coat/sweatshirt
  • 60s (upper) – short-sleeves will need coat/sweatshirt

Yesterday we took our math assessment for Unit 6.  Enclosed is your child’s test and Unit 7: Geometry and Attributes parent letter.  Please review.  We will begin the new unit next week.

On Tuesday I will have a substitute in the morning.  I have to attend a team meeting from 8-11 am.  I will be back in the classroom after lunch for the remainder of the day.

On Tuesday evening, we will host Young Author’s Night from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. in the media center.  Students will have the opportunity to share their BARE books.  They have worked very hard over the past three weeks.  Students able to attend Young Author’s Night can leave with their books.  If you are unable to attend, then your child will bring his/her book home on Wednesday.

Parent-teacher conferences are Wednesday, April 15th at 5-8 p.m.  Please contact me to schedule your conference at 889-9674 ext. 436 or via email at sniederstadt@manistee.org .

Enclosed are March and April’s book orders.  They are due on Tuesday, April 7th.  No cash please.  You can make your check out to Scholastic Book Clubs.

I will be out of the classroom on Thursday and Friday.  Sara Catanese, Mrs. Catanese’s daughter will be my substitute.  If Mrs. Lyman goes into labor, then Ms. Catanese will substitute in her room.  Sara is the long-term substitute while Mrs. Lyman is on maternity leave.  Due to my absence there will be no homework, spelling words, or Friday Folder next week.  Have a safe and happy spring break.  I’ll see everyone back on Tuesday, April 7th.

The following are dates that you may want to add to your calendar:

  • PJ Day – March 26
  • Spring Pictures – April 9
  • Parent-Teacher Conferences at 5-8 pm – April 15
  • Iowa Test of Basic Skills (ITBS) – April 13-17
  • Wizard of Oz – April 23, 24 & 26
  • Spring Sing – May 20

Warmly,
Mrs. N
