Mrs. Niederstadt's Parent Letter

December 5, 2008

Dear Parents,

I will not in school on Monday.  Janice Webb is my substitute.  She was a first grade teacher.  The kids will love her.

Next week we will have gingerbread activities throughout the week with Mrs. Brown’s fifth grade class.  The activities will focus on art, reading, writing and mathematics.  On Tuesday we will make gingerbread cookies at the Onekama’s Lion’s Den.  Your child needs to wear appropriate clothing for making cookies.  Enclosed you will find a permission slip.  Please sign and return to school with your child’s Friday folder.

The Onekama Public Library will host “Create a Christmas Craft” from December 8-11.  You may stop in anytime during their library hours: Monday from 11-5, Tuesday from 11-5 and Wednesday from 12-6.  Your child will be able to make a Rudolph ornament, pine cone Christmas tree, door hanger, paper garland chain and many others.  The library Christmas party will be on Thursday, Dec. 11th at 3:30 p.m.

On Wednesday we will have a pajama day in our classroom.  Your child is invited to wear their favorite pajamas accompanied with slippers, but please be sure your child’s pajamas are weather appropriate.  Your child will be going outside for recess.

On Wednesday evening we will have our annual holiday program.  Your child should dress in their holiday attire.  I will meet your child in our classroom at 6:45 p.m.  The program begins at 7:00 p.m. in the gymnasium.

On Friday we will walk to the Onekama Public Library from 11:45 – 1:30.  Please be sure to send in your child’s books by Thursday.  I’ll drop them off after school on Thursday.  Ms. Jane has planned an extra special craft for us.  I would love to have some extra hands.  If you are able to walk with us, then your help would be greatly appreciated.

Don’t shop for our holiday party yet.  Our office staff in cooperation with Rockin R Stable in Bear Lake is working on having a day of snow much fun instead of a holiday party.  We will spend our time sledding, building snowmen and taking a sleigh ride.  I’ll keep you posted as the details are available.

Recently Mr. Brandis put up our THIRD pencil sharpener in our classroom this year.  Students have been abusing our sharpeners by sharpening the eraser end of their pencils.  Until further notice students are unable to sharpen their own pencils.  My classroom volunteers and I will sharpen your child’s pencil.  It would be helpful for your child to have a personal pencil sharper inside their desk.  This would make a good stocking stuffer.

Last (but not least) is our letters to Santa.  Due to cut backs in our school budget, we are unable to send out your child’s letter to Santa.  Enclosed is your child’s letter so you can send it for him/her.  Enjoy!!
