Mrs. Niederstadt's Parent Letter

December 18, 2008

Dear Parents,

Tomorrow we will not have gym class.  We are participating along with Mrs. Lyman’s first grade class in a distant learning opportunity.  We will have a live interactive program titled Christmas Tree Ship by the Milwaukee Public Museum from 8:30-9:30 a.m.  We will listen to Jeanette Winter’s book, The Christmas Tree Ship and make an ornament.

At 10:00 a.m. we will leave for Rockin’ R Stable in Bear Lake along with all K-3 students and should return around 2:00 p.m.  We will have a 30-minute sleigh ride, build snowmen and sled.  Students need to bring a sack lunch.  We have no access to a microwave so it needs to be a cold lunch.  If needed you may purchase a sack lunch from the cafeteria for $2.25.  Parents and siblings are welcome, but you must provide your own transportation.  Currently Mrs. Acton, Mr. Gutowski, and Mr. Torrey are our chaperones.  All students will ride the bus to and from the stable.

After Christmas break, we will begin our spelling program.  Currently we’ve been using inventive spelling so it would not stifle students writing, but now it is time to introduce spelling into our daily work.  Students are expected to spell our word wall words correctly.  The assessment will take three days.  My goal is to begin spelling tests on the week of January 19th.  I’ll keep you posted on our progress.

Have a safe and happy holiday.  I’ll see you on Monday, January 5, 2009.
