 Dear Parents,

Welcome back!  I hope everyone had a fun and restful spring break. 

Today we were supposed to walk to the Onekama Public Library, but Ms. Jane and I had some miscommunication.  I did not realize the library was closed today due to the holiday, Good Friday.  I would like to reschedule for Monday, April 13^th, but I have not confirmed this with Ms. Jane.  Hopefully this will work for her too. 

Last Wednesday we took our math assessment for Unit 7.  Enclosed is your child’s test and Unit 8: Mental Arithmetic, Money, and Fractions.  This was a more difficult test.  The class average was 86%.  In Part A topics should have been easier for your child.  If s/he missed any of these topics, then it would be a good idea to practice at home.  In Part B these were recently introduced topics. Please review Unit 8 parent letter; we will begin the new unit next week.

This week students had an addition test.  Your child’s test is enclosed.  All students passed it and now are practicing subtraction facts.  Students will bring home their subtraction math flashcards for the first time next Tuesday. 

Yesterday Life Touch was here to take spring pictures.  No money is needed at this time.  Students’ pictures will be sent home in several weeks.  Enclosed will be a price list.  If you would like to purchase part or all of them, then you can send in the money.  If you do not want them, just return them to school with your child.

Next week we will begin Iowa Tests of Basic Skills (ITBS). The format will be similar to our theme tests.  We will test in the mornings only.  Please be sure your child is to school on time and has had a good breakfast.   We will test on Monday – Thursday from 8:00-9:45.  It would be a good idea to pack a water bottle daily since students are not allowed to move about during testing.  Due to ITBS test, there will be no spelling test.  Also our parent volunteers will have the week off.  We’ll see them the following week.
