Dear
First Grade Families,
This week during our
shared reading time we learned the story One Red Rooster. We
added words to our word wall, wrote about our favorite part, made a
class book and made a number word book. In math this week we practiced
number writing, we filled in numbers for a September calendar, we
explored math manipulatives, talked about temperature and started
telling number stories. On Monday we will have our Unit One Checking
Progress.
I had some parents interested in volunteering. They signed up at Open
House. If you were unable to make it to Open House but would still like
to help out please let me know and I can add you to the schedule. I
would like to complete the schedule and get it to parents next week
Friday.
You received an orange card last week so your child can get a library
card. I still need cards from the following students: Leslie, Kolin,
Zackary, Kylie, Hayden, and Nathan. If your child already has a library
card please send it with them to school. All cards need to be turned
in by Oct. 2nd so we can walk to the library and check out
books. Also try to find a bag for your child to carry their books in so
they are easier to transport.
Some of your child’s graded work has come home today. Grading goes
As
follows: S+ means achieved, S means progressing successfully, S- means
beginning to develop and U means experiencing difficulty. I would
suggest that you sit down with your child and look through the Friday
folder each weekend. It is good to practice any skill that has been
marked with U, or S-. |
Please remember to provide healthy snacks for your child. It is
important for them to have good brain food like fruit, cheese or
yogurt. Foods that have too much sugar do not allow them to focus as
well.
Will be visiting the fire department on October 8th. Anyone
is welcome to join us. We will be leaving school by 12:00.
Permission slips went home last week. I need to have those signed and
turned in so we can go on our short trips around town throughout the
year. I still need permission slips from the following students: Kolin,
Zackary, Kylie, Hayden, and Jan.
Have a wonderful weekend! We sure have been blessed with some beautiful
days! It is nice when summer weather hangs on!
Questions
to ask your child this week are the following:
1)
Can you use the following words in a sentence? One, fast, dogs,
cats, went, and, two, three
2)
Can you tell me about pattern blocks? Geoboards? Base-10 Blocks?
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lyman
