Dear First
Grade Families,
We have been very busy this week. We learned to read a new
book from our reading series called Annie, Bea, and Chi Chi Delores.
Last week we learned to read Moonbear’s Books. We started making
our word wall by putting six new words up and writing sentences with a
few of the words. We also completed a story map.
In math we are doing some number writing, practicing one
more and one less stories and learning to use the number line. A math
letter has come home today. Please read this so you are aware of what
we will be doing during math. Disregard the homelink answers as we will
not start homework until October.
I have included a book order in today’s folder. Please look
it over and if there are any books your child might like send in your
order with a check by next Friday.
Almost everyone has brought in a water bottle. If your
child still needs a water bottle please try to get one. It is much
better to have water right at their desk instead of having to leave
during learning time to get a drink.
Please be looking around the house for a bag you are not
using. I would like students to have a bag to carry their books back
from the public library. Our first public library visit is Thursday,
Oct. 2nd. You are welcome to join us! There are orange
cards in the folders. Please fill them out front and back so your child
can get a library card. If your child already has a card please bring
it to school so we have it for our Oct. 2nd visit.

October is fire safety month. We will be visiting the
Onekama Fire Department on Wednesday, Oct. 8th. You are
welcome to come along. We will be leaving school right after lunch at
about 11:45.
At our Open House last night I had a sign-up sheet for those
of you interested in coming to volunteer. If you could not come last
night, but would like to volunteer please let me know.
Our school store is open! We will be going to the store on
Friday’s at 2:00. If your child would like to purchase from the store
please send them with money on Friday’s. All the money is donated to
the P.T.O. and is used for field trips and other activities throughout
the school year.
In your folder there are papers with your personal
information. Please be sure that everything is correct and nothing is
missing. If you need to change something write it on the paper and send
it back to school. If everything is the way you want it to be then you
can recycle the paper.
I gave you a paper with all the letters and numbers the way
we would like your child to write them. I also included the writing
paper we use. You may want to make copies and use these to help your
child practice writing. We write in D’Nelian which gets your child
ready to learn cursive next year.
Every year we make a variety of class books. Each student
will be able to keep one of the class books we make. Be looking for
your child’s class book with a page made by each child in our class.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lyman |
