Dear First
Grade Families,
This week during shared reading time we learned to read the
story Pumpkin, Pumpkin. We made a growing pumpkin book, added
words to our word wall, made jack-o-lanterns, and wrote about our
favorite part. During math this week we learned to write addition and
subtraction number models and we completed our unit 2 checking
progress. Graded tests came home today. Your child was also given the
opportunity to fix anything on their test that was incorrect.
We have completed our reading unit in our basal series.
After completion of each unit the students take a magazine test. These
tests determine how well they are doing with reading fluency and
comprehension. We will start the test on Tuesday morning and finish it
on Wednesday. I will not need volunteers this week.
Today during our gym time we decorated pumpkins. Pumpkins
were given to each first grade child from Matthew Mallison’s family.
Our class visits the school store every Friday. If your
child would like to purchase items from the store please send them to
school with at least 1 dollar. |
Halloween is next week Friday. We will start our party
at 12:30. Please be sure to send your child’s costumes with them to
school, but leave any weapon accessories at home. Food can be brought
in the morning or at the start of the party.
Our next visit to the public library is scheduled for Nov. 7th.
Please make sure your child has their books turned in by then. They can
bring them here, or you can take them directly to the library in town.
Last week I mentioned that we planted bulbs around the
school yard, but it was cancelled and rescheduled for today. Now you
can ask your child about planting!
Questions to ask your child this week are the following:
-
Can you use the following
words in a sentence? In, out, put, then
-
Can you tell me how a
pumpkin grows?
-
Can you tell me a number
story and write the number model for your story?
Have a nice weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lyman
