Dear
First Grade Families,
This week in science we
discussed the weather. We read What Will the Weather Be? By
Lynda DeWitt. This story taught us about wind cycles, water vapor, how
clouds formed, meteorologists and what tools they use to predict the
weather.
We watched a video on different types of weather; floods, tornados,
rain, sunshine etc.
We read a second book, titled, Flash, Crash, Rumble, and Roll by
Franklyn M. Branley. This book taught us about clouds and where
thunder, lightning and rain come from. We also did our own weather
observations, predictions and discussed the four seasons.
In
shared reading we read A Mother for Choco by Keiko Kasza. We
completed a story map and learned about different animals. We also
completed a making words lesson.
This week in math, we’ve finished up Unit 8. Students took the math
assessment (enclosed) on Wednesday and we reviewed the questions and
answers on Thursday. We will begin Unit 9 on Monday.
Thursday your child took his/her last spelling test. Your child’s test
is enclosed. Next week I am giving an end of the year spelling
assessment. Your child’s results will be included in his/her last
report card. |
Spring pictures were sent home on Thursday. If you wish to purchase the
pictures, please fill out the form and return it to the office with
payment for your order. We will send them back to Lifetouch. The
pictures will be sent back to the school before the end of the year.
Just a friendly reminder about the money for Moomer’s is due on Friday,
May 22nd. Students are responsible for a fee of $4.00 to
receive a guided tour and cup or cone of their famous homemade ice
cream. Please send it in an envelope with your child’s name on it.
Parents are welcome to attend. If you’re interested, then you will need
to include your fee of $4.00 in your child’s envelope. Please label the
envelope accordingly. I would prefer cash, but checks can be made out
to Moomer’s, if necessary.
Pictures and writing samples from some of last weeks activities have
been added to our class website.
Have a great weekend!
Sincerely,
Ms. Catanese
