Dear First
Grade Families,
We completed our last magazine test this week. Please look for graded
tests to come home next week. The second week of April we will take the
Iowa Test of the Basic Skills. The format of the test is similar to the
magazine tests we have been taking so the kids will be familiar with the
testing process.
We have a new student! Olivia joined our classroom on Wednesday.
We are happy to have her in our class.
Graded animal research projects came home today. Mrs. N and I developed
a rubric to help us grade the projects. If you have any questions or
concerns about the rubric and how the project was graded please let me
know. This is the first year we are trying the rubric. The kids will
be able to take their animal and report home once all the books have
been written. They are all doing a great job with their books and we
are almost finished.
We are starting some geometry activities in math and I would like to
have a shape museum. Please look around your home for 3D shapes, for
example cylinders (soup can), rectangular prisms (cereal box), spheres
(a ball), cones, and pyramids. If you find any shapes for our museum
please bring them in. |
Book orders came home today. Please look them over and if your child
would like some books, send your order form in with a check to
Scholastic by next week Friday, March 13th.
As I mentioned last week, my last day will be March 27th and
then I go on my maternity leave (baby is due during Spring Break). I am
planning conferences on March 18th and 19th. I
have included the conference list again this week and a few of you have
signed up to meet with me. Please look over the times and let me know
what time works best for you. I can be reached via e-mail (klyman@manistee.org)
or phone (889-5521).
We have completed the first week of our ice cream for reading project.
Please turn in your reading slips on Monday so your child can add a
scoop of ice cream to their cone on our bulletin board.
I wish all of you a nice
weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lyman
