Mrs. Lyman's Parent Letter

Friday, March 13th, 2009

 Dear First Grade Families,

This week during shared reading time we learned to read Eek! There’s a Mouse in the House.  We completed a story map, added words to our word wall and made a class book.

In math this week we completed our unit 6 checking progress.  The kids got a chance to fix any of their mistakes so they understand the concepts better.  Graded tests will come home next week.  The unit 7 letter came home today.

Check out our website to see pictures of the leader dog visit.  We learned all about the responsibilities of the leader dogs and their owners allowed us to pet the dogs at the end of the presentation.  They were all such sweet animals!

Graded magazine tests came home today.  This was our last magazine test of the year.  April 13-17 the kids will take the Iowa Test of the Basic Skills.  The format is similar to the magazine test.

Seven of you have scheduled time to meet with me and go over your child’s progress.  If you haven’t scheduled a time yet please call or e-mail me and let me know when you are available (889-5521 or klyman@manistee.org).

My last week in school will be March 23rd through 27th.  Miss Sarah Catanese will be spending the rest of the year with my class.  She is a 2002 graduate of Onekama.  Her Mom is a third grade teacher here. She has been working on completing her teacher certification at Castleton State College in Vermont.  She has had experience in a 4th grade classroom and a kindergarten classroom and has been substitute teaching since the winter of 2007.  She will be doing her student teaching next fall and will graduate with her teaching certificate in December.  I am very comfortable having Sarah take over.  She will have a wonderful influence on your children.

We walked to the public library yesterday.  If your child checked out books, they will be due on Thursday, April 2nd.

This weekend is supposed to be nice, so enjoy!  I think Spring is coming soon (at least I hope it is coming soon J).

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lyman
