Dear First Grade
Families,
During
shared reading this week we learned to read the story The Lady with
the alligator purse. We wrote a paragraph using the words first,
next, and last, we completed a making words lesson, we added words to
the word wall, we wrote about our favorite part and we played a blends
and digraphs game.
In math this
week we made a graph showing the different heights of students in our
class, we learned to tell time on the analogue clock by the quarter
hour, we learned about timelines and we started our number scrolls.
We completed
the 90 word spelling test on Wednesday. Any words your child spelled
incorrectly will be their spelling words for the next several weeks.
They will have 6 spelling words to study each week. Your child’s first
set of spelling words will come home on Monday, Jan. 12th.
Please study them throughout the week so they are ready for their test
on Friday.
We are
starting to practice addition and subtraction facts. Addition
flashcards came home today. Please practice these with your child. We
will be practicing them here at school also. Once your child attains
mastery of the addition facts they will be able to practice subtraction
facts.

will be taking our second magazine test. These test reading fluency,
reading comprehension, phonics, and writing. I will not need
volunteers next week because we will be taking the test during guided
reading time.
A
book order has come home today. Please look over the catalogue to see
if there is anything your child may like to have. If you want to place
an order please fill-out the order form and return your order with a
check to me by Friday, Jan. 16th.
Good
Behavior Ski day forms came home today. Please fill out all the forms
and turn them in as soon as possible. Our class will be skiing on
Thursday, Feb. 10th. Anyone is welcome to join us!
Questions to
ask your child this week are the following:
