Dear First
Grade Families,
During our shared reading time this week we learned to read the story
The Doorbell Rang. We completed a story map, we learned the
contractions it’s, we’re and I’ve, we made a list of short a words and
used them in a sentence, and we did a making words lesson. In math this
week we worked with base ten blocks. Base ten blocks have a long that
is ten and a cube that is 1. We used the blocks to make numbers. We
also counted using our calculators and we learned about greater then,
less than, and equal.
On Monday we read a book about Martin Luther Kin Jr. and completed an
activity so we could understand what it was like to live during his time
when everything was segregated. We talked a lot about how proud he
would be that we have a black president and that his dream has come
true.
On Tuesday we watched the
presidential inauguration and read a weekly reader about President
Barack Obama. |
There will be no school
tomorrow, Friday, January 23rd and Monday, January 26th. We
are having teacher in-services on those days. The last day of the
marking period is today. Report cards will come home on Friday, January
30th.
Your child completed their
first spelling test of the year today. If they spelled all six of their
words correctly they received a pack of Smarties candies. Corrected
tests came home today.
Questions to ask your child
this week are the following:
-
What is the name of our new
president? What number president is he?
-
Can you use the following
words in a sentence? Made, each, they, good, like
Have a nice weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs. Lyman |
