Mrs. Lyman's
Parent Letter

Friday, February 13th, 2009

Dear First Grade Families,

This week during shared reading we learned to read The Itsy Bitsy Spider.  We added words to the word wall, made a class book, completed a story map, and wrote about our favorite part.

In math we learned about doubles facts, and facts that equal 10, we learned how to complete a function machine, and we completed a conversation heart candy activity.

Our class is collecting food for the food pantry during the month of February.  Please bring in any non-perishable items by the end of the month.  Thank-you!

We have started a health unit this week.  So far we have had lessons on ways to stay healthy, and people who care for us with loving touches.

If you have moved or changed your phone number please be sure to let our office know.  It is very important that we have the correct ways to contact you.

What a beautiful day we had for skiing on Tuesday!  The kids had a really great time.  Be sure to look on our website at all the pictures of our day at Crystal Mountain.

During our gym time we started the year learning basketball skills.  Lately, we have been working on a fitness unit.  Students have practiced the shuttle run, sit-and-reach, sit-ups, and jump roping.

Spelling has been going well.  Please keep practicing each week with your child.  They are so excited when they receive their Smarties!

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

1)      Can you use the following words in a sentence?  Sun, again, no, off, some, try, very.

2)    Can you tell me 2 numbers that can be added together to make 10?

Have a wonderful Valentine’s Day weekend!

Sincerely,

 Mrs. Lyman
