Dear
First Grade Families,
This week during shared reading students learned to read
On Top of Spaghetti. They completed a story map, added words to the
word wall, completed a making words lesson, drew a favorite food tree,
learned about th words and wrote about their favorite part.
In math this week students were introduced to measuring.
They measured with parts of their body, they measured with their foot
and then the standard foot, and they learned about the inch.
We started our Christmas around the world unit this week.
We made passports and traveled to China. We made paper chains and paper
lanterns out of red, yellow and green paper. People celebrating
Christmas in
China call their trees “trees of light.”
Mrs. Brown’s fifth grade class is still taking donations for
the Onekama alumni troops that are in Iraq. If you would like to donate
please send in your donations by next week Friday, December 12th.
I am still collecting personal care items for a family in
need at our school. I need items like toothbrushes, soap, shampoo,
deodorant, Kleenex, etc. Please send in your donations by Friday,
December 19th. If you would like to do more there are many
ornaments on the trees next to the student services office. Each
ornament has items on it that are needed by an Onekama family. Feel
free to choose an ornament and let Mrs. Bergren know which item(s) you
will be purchasing. |
Our elementary Christmas program, “Paint the town
December,” will take place next week Wednesday, December 10th
at 7:00. Please bring your child to our classroom by 6:45.
Questions to ask your child this week are the following:
1) Can
you use the following words in a sentence? Under, big, as, when, tree
2) Can
you count by 10’s up to 500?
Have
a wonderful weekend!
Sincerely,
Mrs.
Lyman
