Dear
First Grade Families,
This week during math we worked with money. We continued working with
coins and one- dollar bills were introduced. We practiced exchanging
smaller coins for larger coins and eventually exchanged one hundred
cents for $1.00. We also used base-10 blocks to learn about the 1’s,
10’s and 100’s places.
In shared reading we read If
the Dinosaurs Came Back by Bernard Most. We learned about the size
of dinosaurs and their extinction, completed a making words lesson,
added five words to our word wall and made a class book.
On Monday, April 13th we will
begin taking the Iowa Test of Basic Skills. The format will be similar
to our theme tests. We will test in the mornings only. Please be sure
your child is to school on time and has had a good breakfast. Testing
will be Monday-Thursday from 8:00-9:45. It would be a good idea to pack
a water bottle daily since students are not allowed to move about during
testing. Due to the Iowa Test, there will be no spelling test. Also
our parent volunteers will have the week off. We’ll see them the
following week. |
Homework will start back up the
week of April 20th.
Last, but not least, Mr. and
Mrs. Lyman welcomed their baby girl, Avery Claire into the world on
April 6. Avery was born weighing 6 lbs. 15 oz. They are all doing very
well! Pictures have been posted
on Mrs. Lyman’s website.
I look forward to working with
your children for the remainder of the year. Please don’t hesitate to
stop by or e-mail me at
sbcatanese@manistee.org
I look forward to meeting you!
Sincerely,
Sarah Catanese
