IOWA Tests
Third Graders concluded
their testing this morning. Test results will be available before the
year ends. Our afternoons were very light academically, as they
students were very fatigued. Yesterday we enjoyed walking to the village
Library and the sunshine.
Weekly Homework
My philosophy of
homework for elementary-aged students is this… Children are in the
classroom 7 hours a day, 5 days a week. Some students do not get home
until 6:00 in the evening, then the dinner, and then you may have an
hour or so before bedtime. The time goes by quickly, therefore evenings
at home are a sacred time. HOWEVER, a 15 minute period of skill review
does not hurt, and it will keep the family aware of their child’s
current skills and abilities. I will be sending home writing topics,
grammar, and math skills to practice at home. Please assist your child
if necessary with this homework. It should be returned the following
day, and I’ll return it in your child’s Friday folders.
READING nightly is
strongly encouraged. I often see reading as an escape, especially if
the author and/or illustrator is a good one.
Spelling Words
There was no spelling
test this week due to the IOWA tests. I will now post the weekly
spelling words on our webpage. We will be studying Ancient Egypt
next week and possibly the following week. All words will be taken from
that study.
