Inner Self Poetry

The process:

The students wrote a list containing things belonging to the following categories: element, animal, color, flower, food gem, place, sound, tree, and weather.  Then they had to write down one object from each category that described them or that they felt drawn to.  Then they wrote a poem using the chosen objects. They could use them all, or just a few.

Myself

By Faith C.

I am as fast as a cat,

running through red fire,

like strawberries on a plate.

I like to go to the mall

on stormy days

when oak trees fall down

on windy days,

I feel like a daisy.

My New Cat

By Hobi H.

As I lay in the grass

I stepped on a stick, and

a cat ran out of the bushes.

It sat by the fire and

ate my nachos.

It started to snow,

but we were okay.

Because we were under

a birch tree.

Stars

By Hobi H.

I like

To look

At the

Stars and Wonder

How far away they are.

So I went

And got

A telescope

And said

They are too far away.

Surprise

By Julia C.

As I was walking

down the green grass,

I saw a bunny run by,

and to my surprise,

A fire lays by my feet

With some nice, warm nachos

to snack on.

My Goat

Kelsey K.

I love goats.

They look like roses.

They go to the mall.

They love blue.

They saw a green stone.

They eat watermelon.

It was sunny out.

They ran into an apple tree.

They walked on water.

Mackinac Island

Ohhhhh

I’ll brush my teeth on rocky reef.

Ohhhhhhh

It makes me feel the breeze blowing through the trees.
