A Visit by Jonnie Sam

Jonnie Sam is the director of Historic Preservation for the Little River Band of Ottawa Indians.  He gave a presentation on culture and tradition of the Ottawa tribe to second graders. 

Jonnie Sam came to visit our class.  He is in charge of the Native American history.  He brought in a turtle rattle.  He made sparks with flint and steel.

He brought some sweetgrass.  He brought a flute.  Some sage too.  They played snowsnake.  It is a game.  They played turtle rattle.  They made fire with flint rock.  ~Aric

Jonnie Sam came to visit our class.  His name is Namnipigong. It means “eagle dreaming the world.”  They played hide and seek and snow snake.  He brought a turkey feather.  ~Brendan

 

He had a rattle of a turtle.  He told us two stories.  He brought in sweet grass.   ~Hope

 

 Jonnie brought in a pocket made of fur and deer skin.  He brought in a turkey feather.  Jonnie told us about the game they played called snow snake.  It sounded really fun.  Maybe it will let me have fun for the rest of the winner.  ~Jarrett
