Sleeping Bear Dunes

By Elizabeth Domres

On May19th 2009 we went to Sleeping Bear Dunes. We went to the visitor’s center first. Then we took a hike on the Cottonwood Trail. I learned a lot. I learned to stay on the trails so you don’t kill the plants and so you don’t step on poison ivy.   Then we climbed the dunes a million times. We were there all day. At lunch we were chasing seagulls. Then we went back to school. But on the way we stopped at a chocolate factory and got free samples!!!!!!!!!!! It was very good. It was a good time there.

It felt very exciting.  Only third graders went.  I was a good day at the Sleeping Bear Dunes.  At the sand dunes the ranger talked about how people should not go on the dune grass. ~By Katelynn

On May 19th 2009 I went to Sleeping Bear Dunes with my class for a field trip. First we  stopped at a visitors center. We watched a video and got stuff from the gift shop. Then we went to a parking lot by a trail and we split into two groups. My group went first and the other group went second. When we were hiking the leader was telling us about the Sleeping Bear. When we got to a big giant hill we ran down bare footed. Then

We waited on the second hill for the other group and when they got to where we were we all ran down the second hill. Every one kept on going up and down. Then we ate lunch. When we were on our way home we stopped at a Chocolate place. The name  was –The grocers from the Ecuador daughter. Then we went home. I had a lot of fun.

We went to Sleeping Bear Dunes. First we went to the visiting center. We saw a short video. The video told about the legend. We saw stuffed animals like foxes and many more.

We hiked on the Cottonwood Trail. I learned that you should stay on the trail and I saw a cotton tree. We stay on the trail because there are some plants you don’t want to step on them.

Then we went to Sleeping Bear Dunes. We climbed them then we ran down them. It was so much fun.

Then we went to a chocolate factory. And we got a couple of samples of chocolate.

Yesterday my class went to the Sleeping Bear Dunes!! First we went to the visitor center.

Then we went on a hike to the dunes. When we got there we ran up and down and up and down and up and down the hill!! I did flips, dug a hole, played football, and I got buried two times.

It was a lot of fun going on the hike. The guide told us what poison ivy looks like. We also know why they call the Cottonwood Trail the Cottonwood Trail, because there is a tree that is called the Cottonwood.

I felt very happy when Mrs. Catanese said we could go.  I felt the wind hit my cheeks.  I loved when we went to the chocolate factory.  I had some good chocolate.  I learned that cocoa beans come from the forest.

I am at the Sleeping Bear Dunes.  I am getting my shoes.  I like running down the hill. ~By Roberto

Once you start running, you can’t stop, unless you fall. The picture looks like we’re flying because our feet are off the ground.  The dunes is a very fun place! When I am there I feel free. ~By Julia

I was running at full speed with the wind forcing me back.  I wish I was still there.  I felt like I was free flying.  I felt free.  My hair would fly up and get in my face making it so I couldn’t’ see. ~By Hobi

After the movie we looked at exhibits. Then we went the Sleeping Bear Dunes there was a girl named Sara she gave us a tour of cotton wood trail. She told us that can be a boy or a girl. The boys have purple grapes and girls have green grapes. After that we saw alligator dune, and mother bear. When the tour was done we ran down a big dune. After that we had lunch. Then we played in the sand. We buried people, we played tag, we ran down the hill, and we made a fort. When it was time to leave we went to a chocolate shop. They make homemade truffles. The 2 people’s names were Mimi and Puloma. We went into the kitchen. We got to have a sample of a truffle. It had honey in it. Then went to see Mimi and we got a taste of all of these chocolates! We also found out that dark chocolate is healthier than milk chocolate. Then we went to school

On May 19, 2009 we went to Sleeping Bear Dunes. At Sleeping Bear Dunes we did so much stuff. First we went to the visitors center to watch a video and then after that we went to buy stuff in the visitors center but I didn’t have any money. So I couldn’t get anything. Second we went to the trail and we met with Ranger Peg. She was nice. She lead us on the trail. She taught us so many things about nature. One thing she taught us about nature is what poison ivy looks like. Another thing she taught us was not to walk off the trail because it will kill the plants. Oh yeah the trail we hiked on was called the Cottonwood Trail. Then after we were done on the trail we went to the dunes. We had our lunch at the dunes. Next we played there. The dune was huge so it took along time to get up it but it was worth it. When you run down the dunes you go really fast. Some people’s faces went in the sand. Jared was running down the dune and I think he tripped on something but he fell face first in the sand. It was funny but I felt bad. He had sand in his eyes, and in his mouth, and up his nose. After that exciting adventure we went to a chocolate shop it was called “Grocer’s Daughter Chocolate shop.” They let us try some of the chocolate. They actually made the chocolate. The chocolate was shipped to them all the way from Ecaudor. The chocolate was so good!

Then we hiked on the Cottonwood Trail with our ranger. Ranger Sara told us that there are female and male cottonwood trees. That’s funny. Soon we arrived to the sand dune. We got to go on it. After that we had lunch. Once that was over we went to the chocolate store. We got samples. Some people with money bought chocolate. Others went on the bus. We had a great day.
