My cousin JaySam came in to show us a lot of Native American tools and clothing. He told us about a legend about a Native man that angered sea people. So the people covered the land with nothing but water. The man gathered all the animals on a log so they wouldn't drown. The man told the animals to try to dive down to the ground to grab soil. Only one animal got the soil but that animal drowned trying to get it. The man made land by putting the soil on a turtle’s back. He showed us a lot of other cool things to. I had fun listing to JaySam I hope he could do it again.  ~Hunter E.

Yesterday we had a speaker come in . His name was Jay Sam II. He was a Native American. He taught us a lot of things like about his family history. My favorite thing he taught us was about sweet grass and the sage that they smudged on them. And he told us about where they lived throughout the changing seasons. When he left he left he gave my teacher sweet grass which smells awesome and a smudge shell. I had a lot of fun and learned a lot. ~Jack

Native America speaker, Jay Sam, came in and spoke to 4th and 5th graders on Wednesday.

JaySam came from the Little River Casino and showed us some things. One of the things was a stick with deer skin and a turkey foot on it. I thought it was kind of gross. Another thing was a rattle made out of deer skin and a turtle shell. It was loud to me. One last thing JaySam showed us was sweet grass. The sweet grass was braded. He let us smell it and I thought it smelled really bad. JaySam was a good speaker. ~Cynthia

On the day 1-27-09 an Indian named Johnny J. Sam came to our class to talk about the earlier Native Americans. J. Sam talked for about an hour while he showed us Native American stuff like the sweet grass, flint, a smudge shell and a speaking stick. My favorite was the speaking stick because it had a bell and it was made from a turkey foot. The flint and this iron thing made sparks when You slide the flint down the iron really fast. They used the smudge shell was used to ward off spirits and to attend spirits. They would burn the sweet grass to make incents to smell. It was awesome when Johnny Jay Sam came to our class. ~Logan

Yesterday a speaker cam in. His name was Jay Sam. First he talked how the Ottawa, Chippawa, and Potawatame got their name. He showed us a turtle thing that you shake and it would bring people together for meetings and other stuff the Indians would do. Then he let us sniff sweet grass after it was burnt and smell it kind of good not a lot of people did not like the smell. Then he showed us a flute. He said if a boy played the flute that a stampede of girls would come after the boy. It was nice to hear what he said.  ~Keegan

Jaysam is a very nice guy. He was speaking a Native American language. Jaysam was talking about very old Native American council meetings. He also talked about how they started the meetings by smoking a pipe. Then they would use the stick of speaking and pass it around. Then when they were all done speaking they would come to a conclusion. Then there would be peace. Kyler B

JaySam came to our school and he came from little river Casino. He let us smell a lot  of stuff. He let us smell sweat grass witch he said that u have to take care because that sweat grass is our mother earths hair. He also let us smell something that smelt like something very weird. He also played us the flute that attracted the ladies. And it would also put you to sleep. ~Brandi

Yesterday we had a Native American come in to talk to us. He brought a lot of stuff. He brought a stick with a turkey foot on top of it. He also brought a little bag with a rose to represent his mother. It was very cool I learned a lot that day. ~MacKanzie

Yesterday Jay Sam came for a presentation. It was cool. We smelled sweet grass. It smells good. He told us the flood story. That was good. He is a cool Indian.  ~Keith

Yesterday afternoon my class had an Indian speaker in Social Studies. He showed us this type of grass that smelled like perfume called sweet grass. He gave us the sweet grass as a gift and also the clam shell from the ocean. It was the best Social Studies. ~Caleb

Jay Sam came in last week and talked to us for Social Studies.  First he showed us a stick that they use around a fire to talk. Then he showed us a rattle made of a turtle shell. After that he passed sweet grass to smell.  That speech was great.   ~Ethan H.

On January 28, 2009 Mrs. Brown's fifth grade class had an Indian named Jay Sam visit. He told us storys about how their was land made after the flood. He showed us that if you striked flint rock against metal it made sparks. It was awesome. The Indian Speaker was really nice. ~Courtney L.
