Fifth Grade Language Arts students chose a photo from the Onekama School Web Site, saved it to a Word document, and wrote about it.  Here are their writings.

This is me in 5^th grade.  I’m telling Halloween stories to Mrs. N’s class. The other person in the picture is my friend Keith. Our story is about Giant Spiders of Onekama Consolidated Schools. We shared first to Taylor and Ally. They laughed a lot and thought our story was funny.  ~Caleb

This year I am in 5^th grade. In this pitcher my sister and her friend Madalin were doing my makeup. This year I was a clown for Halloween. I had really big shoes for part of my custom. I had a hared time walking with my shoes on. My sister was a pumpkin for Halloween. I had a good time at Halloween this year.  ~Ethan         

 This year I am in 5^th grade. I play in girl’s basketball. This picture was our first game. We played Bear Lake for the first time. The score at the end of the game was 26-6. I didn’t think we would do so well at first. When the game first began I was a little nerves. But after a while it got better. A lot of people came to the game. My mom, sisters, and my brother came. My dad couldn’t come because he had to work. At the end I was surprised that we won. I even made the buzzer shot. Everyone screamed in the locker room. Everyone did really well. The coached was surprised that it was my first time playing basket ball. When I got home I was so happy. The next day when I went to school all the girls on the basket ball team were really, really happy. Our first basketball game was really great.  ~Cynthia

             This year I’m in fifth grade and I play basketball. In this picture I’m on offence were playing against Brethren Bobcats. The score was two to zero. All of us said that better change and fast. Then the coach said there was some sixth graders on there team she put us back in the game.   It was hard but easy at the same time. Playing basketball is so much fun!!  The coach is Alias Clarke. She is so nice. I love basketball!! ~Courtney L.  

This year I’m in 5^th grade. In this picture Kyler and I are reading our Halloween story to Mrs. Lyman’s class. They are in 1^st grade. Our story was called “The Magic Box”. Kyler is reading the story and I am listening. I had fun reading to the 1^st graders!  ~Brandin

I am in fifth grade this year. I love it. It is so much fun. I thought it was going to be hard. Then I noticed it was really easy. I am playing basketball this year. At our first game I was really nervous. We played Bear Lake. I thought we were going to lose, but we won. I was so happy. The score was twenty six to six. I was so glad. I wanted to win, but I thought we wouldn’t. Our team has fifteen players on it. We have played four games this year. We haven’t lost any of them. We had a game yesterday against Brethren. We won that too. So far my team is undefeated. Our coach is Lisa Clarke and our assistant coach is Al Clarke. There is always a really big crowd. I love playing basketball. I think it is one of the best games ever. I am glad my mom signed me up for basketball this year. I think basketball is the best sport ever. ~Ashley K

          This year I started to play fifth grade girls basketball. I’m the one with the number 12 jersey on. I picked this picture because it includes me my friend and my cousin from Bear Lake. I like playing basketball this year because we are undefeated. We vs.  Bear Lake and Kaleva. We won every game. There are a lot of girls on our team. There are 15 girls that are all very good players on our team. I hope they will all play next year. They have a lot of skill that could help us win a lot of our games. My mom is the coach of our team. This picture was taken at the first basketball game. My cousin’s name is Hailey and my friends name is Ashley. They both like to play basketball that’s why they played. The Bear Lake team was hard to beat and most of the girls were on the Onekama softball team. I’m glad I play basketball. ~Alyssan

            This year I’m am in fifth grade. This year we had a father daughter dance. My grandpa went with us. It was very fun they had cookies & juice it was delouses. The PTO set it up. It was awesome.  ~Abigail

            This year I am in fifth grade. I went bulb planting it was fun. This is a picture of Cynthia, Hunter M., Jon, Tiffany, and me. I planted a lot of bulbs. When you plant bulbs, there will be a pointy end and a end with the roots on it. The end with the roots on it should go in first. If you put the pointy end in first it shouldn’t mater because the bulb will straiten its self. I had a lot of fun planting bulbs. I hope we can do it next year.  ~Hunter

            This year I’m in fifth grade. This is me in math class. I am trying to put my tongue on my nose. It was really hard, but when we where done we where told not to do it and I was mad. In the back round there is me, Hunter E, Lacee, Randy, and Brandi. After we where done we did some games and I was still mad at the paper Mrs. Brown gave us. There was this rediculus one and it was to shout as loud as you can to the number ten (10). Then we all did it except the smart one’s who didn’t do it. They where Brandin, Faith, Ethan, and Spencer. When we were done Mrs. Brown told us that we didn’t have to do it so that’s were I got mad, and I was really mad. After school I went home and told my parents to do it, but they already new that they didn’t have to do it. Fifth grade is so fun. ~Tiffany

            This year I am in 5^th grade. In this pitcher my friend Braden and I are planting bulbs. Are hole elementary are planted bulbs around are school. Braden and I were digging holes for the bulbs. I am on the right side. It was cooled that day. I had fun planting bulbs. ~Randy       

             This year we read our Halloween stories to the first grade class. Caleb and I wrote a story about Giant Spiders of Onekama. It took a while to make it. The first graders liked are story. The first grader’s thought it was funny. This is a good year. ~Keith

            This is our Halloween party class picher. We were taking ower class picher on Halloween. It was fun because we played a lot of game. We played 4h. We played hag the donots. We played bob for apples. It was really fun.   ~Trever

            This year I’m in 5^th grade.  This is when it was my first game and I scored 14 points. First it was Miah, Madison, Mackenzie, Allyson and I, we were in the first group. Mackenzie was jumping for ball. She got her hands on the ball but Bear Lake got it. When they went to shoot I boxed them out and took off. I went to shoot and I made it. Then Bear Lake got it again and went to shoot and missed. Allyson got the ball and passed it to me; I shot and made it again. The score ended up to be 26 to six. I had fun that night. ~Somer

               This year I am in fifth grade. This year we planted bulbs on our play ground. The bulbs were summer lilies. I planted eight bulbs. You have to plant them really deep. It was really fun planting bulbs.  ~Spencer

          This year I am in fifth grade. I joined the fifth grade girl’s basketball team. This picture is a picture of our first basketball game. In this picture we were playing Bear Lake. We won that game to 24 to 8 points. Bear Lake was playing pretty tough but we played tougher. I play a forward with Ashley. Somer and Alyssan play guards, and Courtney plays center. We have fifteen girls on our team. Our team rocks. ~

This year I’m in 5^th grade. This picture is of me at my first basketball game. My team and I were playing Bear Lake at that time. It was fun because my team won. The score was 26-6, Onekama team won. Onekama team has really good players. Our games are only on Tuesdays and Thursdays. The people from my family that were there was my mom, dad, sisters and even my grandmother. That was the best day of my life. So far every game we’ve had we won. I had lots of fun at our first game. ~~Brandi

 In October the elementary part of the school were making scarecrows to put on the side of the street. Out scarecrow has green hair and pants. Jon and I were holding the scarecrow closest to the picture. Our class had a lot of fun doing the scarecrows. Scarecrows are fun to make when it is 6 feet tall. I think our class scarecrow was the best of all the scarecrows out of the elementary part of the school. That was a fun day of the school year.  ~Logan

This year in fifth grade the girl’s basketball team played a game. The game was at home. We played agents Bear Lake. They were winning by two points but then we got ahead of them. Then the score was 12 to 6. Then Cynthia made a shot then we had 14 points. I almost made a basket but it hit the rim and everyone said awman then I said dang I almost had it. My number was 32 and Ashley’s number was 23 we thought it was weird. I had the ball and went down the court. Abby did three fouls in a rough. Then the couch told Abby to not play the rest of the game. Then we put Cynthia out and she shot the winning point. Then we won the game. It was the best game I ever had in my life.  ~Alexa

This year I am in the 5^th grade. In this picture we were having a Halloween party. I was the yellow furry bunny with the saw through it. It was so fun. When I bobbed for apples I got so wet and itchy. We drank apple cider and danced to music. I had a great time at the Halloween party.    ~Hunter M

             This year I am in 5^th grade. This year I started basketball. In this picture I’m begin interdosed to he crowed. We are playing bear lake lakers. I played in the second period and I played guard with Brandi. Cynthia played center and Madison and Courtney M. played forward. The game was 6-12 when I went in. When I went in we scored four more basket then the score was 6-16. Then she put in Alyssan, Ashley, Mackenzie, Somer, and Alexa. They scored to baskets and then the score was 6-18. Then the coach put Miah, Larissa, Courtney .L, Kim, and Abby. Then the score was 6-20. Then she put me, Brandi, Cynthia, Madison, Courtney .M. Then Cynthia scored two baskets and then the score was 6-24. Then it was the forth period and then Cynthia scored 1 more basket and we won 26-6. I think we had a good game. ~Keegan   

          This year Onekama 5^th grade girls have won every game so far. I chose this picture because this was our first game at home. I’m alone in this picture trying to get the ball. So far basketball is my favorite sport and I have been in a lot of sports. We won our first game the score was 26 to 6. We beat them bad and at the end of the game they started to cry. Two days later we beat Bear Lake again. I love B-ball!!  ~Larissa

            This year I am in fifth grade. It is very fun. At first I thought it would be hard, but it is kind of easy. This year I am in basketball, it is a lot of fun. I’ve learned a lot about it. Our first game was against  Bear Lake, and guess what, we won! The score was 26 to six. We almost had a full crowd, it was awesome! I scored four points. After that game we played against brethren. The score of brethren was 16 to ten. We won every game so far. We have had six games so far. Who couldn’t like basket ball?  I love basketball, it is an aggressive sport! ~Madison

            This year I am in 5^th grade.  My name is Lacee. I am in Mr. Neph's class he is nice. This is my Halloween picture in 2008. For our Halloween party we had 4 games to play. We could go watch movie if we wanted to. This picture is me when I was all dressed up. The snake is a picture of my cup cakes. I was a vampire for Halloween. Mr. Neph had a lot of food. We had lots of pictures taken. Faith helped me with my face paint. It was a lots of fun. I had a very fun time. My friend Jessica was a gothic  princess. Also we had a game called Guitar Hero it was so much fun. I wish I could do it again. ~Lacee    

                        This year I am in 5^th grade. In this picture the whole elementary is marching around the block by the school. We through candy and gave out balloons to people. Everybody from Onekama was there. After we marched I was pooped. This year is the best! ~Kimberly

 This year I’m in 5^th grade. This is at my Halloween party. I was eating and playing Guitar Hero Legends of Rock!!! We also played Risk World Domination. We had a great time and it was very fun. Brandin, Spencer, Hunter and I had a lot of fun playing Risk. It was the best Halloween party ever!!  ~Kyler         

This year I am in 5^th grade. This is a picture of me on the first day of school. My teachers name is Mr. Neph. Mr. Neph is really nice. Our class had 21 students but then three of them moved. So now we only have 18 class mates. I have a lot of friends some of there names are Somer, Lacee, Mackenzie, Ashley, and Madison. They are all really nice. I like them equally .I usually I play with Lacee. We play tag; boys chase girls, dogs, or something we make up. We have homework every day except for on the weekends. We have Social studies, Science, Math, English Language Arts and Reading. I have a lot of brothers and sisters. Sometimes after school we play football, or frees tag. I also have a lot of relatives. I enjoy being in fifth grade a lot.  ~Jessie 

            This year I am in 5^th grade. This year we had an awesome Halloween party. This is a picture of my Halloween class at the Halloween party. We hade a lot of fun and we got candy and brownies and healthy stuff like that. We also have an awesome sub well Mrs. Brown was at state. That is a cross country meat were they run a lot. But in the experience of the Halloween that was by far the best Halloween party ever. One of the best things was that we got to have games like bobbing for apples and eat donuts off of our ceiling. In the end we had a lot of fun. We got to have a great Halloween party and got to spend it with our friends. ~Jack

This year I am in 5^th grade.  Jack and I read to Mrs. N’s class our Halloween story. Our story was about my friend and I trick or treating. The name of the story was called Halloween Night. It was base on Jon and Jarrett getting lost in Onekama, Michigan. Once Jack and I got done telling our story we ask what they were for Halloween night. I had a great time telling our story.  ~Jarrett 

This year I’m in 5^th grade. In this picture Logan and I are carrying a scarecrow with us. We are carrying this scarecrow because we are setting it up on the road. We are setting it up on the road because this year every class in the elementary had to make a scarecrow. The scarecrow that we are carrying is Mrs. Catanese’s class scarecrow. It was a beach boy. That was a very fun day! ~Jon      

This year I’m in fifth grade and I’m playing basketball. In this picture   I’ am taking the ball down the court. This is our first game. We were playing agents the Lakers. We won 24-6. I was so excited that we won are first game. We hope we will win our other games to.   ~Miah     

This is me in the homecoming parade. There was a big game in Onekama. I dressed up to show my support. It took me almost a half an hour to dress up. When the parade started I started to walk with the floats. I threw candy to a lot of people. When the parade was over we had a vote to see whose float was the coolest. The winning float was the soft mores. They had a fall season float. They had a scarecrow on it, and some leaves. This was a fun parade.  ~Matt

 This year I am in 5^th grade basketball. In this pitcher we are VS. The Brethren Bobcats. In this game it was my frist rebounding the ball. I’m number 11 on the team. When it was half time we went into the locker room. A few minutes later it was time for  the 3^rd quarter. 14 minutes later we won the game. I really like basketball! ~Courtney M.    

This year I’m in fifth grade. This picture is about team building day. We got into two groups and we had to try to carry a ball on a loop. It was very hard. You had to hold a string and pole it as much as you could. I was on the same team as my best friend Mackenzie. Are team won but I didn’t care. Team building day was so much fun.  ~Rhianan
