Fifth grade language arts students interviewed kindergarten children. They typed their reports, and added one of these photos to their page. Each kindergarten student received a copy of the interview.

Clear the way! Cute Chicks in Mrs. Bromley’s Class.

            This year Mrs. Bromley’s class hatched chicks. Perla is a student in Mrs. Bromley’s class.

Mr. Zupin gave the eggs to Mrs. Bromley’s class; Perla said that it was a boy. Perla said that she felt very happy, and warm inside when she saw the chicks. She said that the eggs were white, brown, and black. She thought that you had to give worms every day to the eggs, they also had to turn them. “Two times a day we had to give them worms,” Perla said. The first thing you had to do was to see them then you’d go to class. Perla said an incubator was a box with a light that helps them keep warm. She said that she saw something in the egg, first it was little then it got bigger. Perla said for the baby egg to grow it ate its yoke.

 Perla said, “It took 21 days for the eggs to hatch.” She said that she felt warm and much better when the eggs hatched. Perla thought that the coins in the food, and water were to keep them healthy, but it’s for them to see the food and water. She said that they gave the chicks worms and chick food. Perla had fun.

Mr. K’s class had fun hatching the eggs. Perla liked looking at the eggs. 

Cheep! Cheep! Crack!!

            This year in Mr.K’s kindergarten class the students hatched chicks. Keely-Shaye is a student in Mr. K’s class.

            Mr. Zupin gave the class the eggs. Keely said, “The eggs were brown and white.” The first thing they had to do with the eggs was candling. You put X’s and O’s on the eggs so you know when to flip them. The class had to put X’s and O’s on the eggs everyday. They had to flip the eggs everyday too. The incubator heats the eggs. Candling is when you take an egg and put it in a tube and take a flashlight and look at it. Keely could see the eyes in the egg. The baby chick grew in the egg by spinning around.

It takes 21 days for the chicks to hatch. Keely felt fun when the eggs hatched. There are coins in the chick’s water and food because it reflects. The baby chicks eat brown stuff.” She liked putting X’s and O’s on the eggs, said Keely.”

Keely had a lot of fun hatching the eggs. The class did a good job of hatching the eggs.

Peep Cheep Crack

            This year in Mr.K’s kindergarten class the students were hatching baby chicks. Michael is a student in Mr.K’s class.

            At first Michael thought it was a girl who brought in the eggs, but it was Mr.Zupin. When Michael first saw the eggs he was very surprised. Michael said the eggs were white and brown. The first thing Michael had to do with the eggs were to put X’s and O’s on them. Michael put X’s and O’s on them so they could hatch. One thing that they had to do every day was turn them over to X’s and O’s. Michael said that the incubator is a thing that keeps the eggs warm and it is a square. Michael said, “Candling is when you put a light on the egg and you could see in it.” Michael said that you could see a dot inside the egg. The baby chick grew inside the egg by eating the yoke.

            It takes 21 days for the eggs to hatch. Michael felt very good when the eggs hatched. Michael said, “There is money in the water so they know they can eat.” Michael said that the baby chicks eat sand and water. Michael’s favorite part was when the eggs cracked.

            Michael loved the chicks. He said it was very fun.

21 Days Until ‘Peep’

This year in Mr. K’s kindergarten class the students hatched eggs. Briten is a student in Mr.k’s class.

            Briten said, “Mr.Zupin brought in the eggs”. When Briten first saw the eggs he said that they looked ovalish. Briten said, “The eggs were white and green”.  The first thing they had to do with the eggs is that had to put X’s and O’s on them. They put X’s and O’s so they know what side to heat.

Every day they have to turn the eggs 2 times a day. The incubator help keep the eggs warm. Candling is where they put the eggs on top of a tube and have a light on the bottom. He said you can see the chick’s eyes. In the eggs the baby chicks eats the yoke. It takes 21 days for the eggs to hatch. Briten felt very happy when the eggs hatched. Briten said the coins in the tank were so the chicks know where the food and water is. The baby chicks eat chick food. Briten said that he liked the hatching part the best.

Briten was a fun person to interview. He said he wants to interview someone too.        

Feathery Friends

            This year in Mr.Ks kindergarten class they hatched chicks. Dean is a student in Mr.K’s class.

            Mr.Zopin gave the class the eggs. When Dean saw the eggs he liked them. He said “They put X’s and O’s on the eggs to now when to turn them.” Dean candled the eggs and saw the chick grew.

            “It took 20 days to hatch the eggs “said Dean. Dean liked it when the eggs hatch a lot. The class put coins in the chick food and water so the chicks could see the food and water. The baby chicks ate corn. Dean liked the most was when they came out.

            Mr.K’s class loved growing the chick. Dean had fun too.

Peep!!!!

This year in Mr.K’s class the students hatched chicks. Samuel is a student in Mr.K’s class.

Samuel said that Mr.Zupin gave the class the eggs. When the eggs first came Sam thought they were awesome.  He said the eggs where Red, and White. Sam said the first thing they did to the eggs was to candle them. “They put X’s and O’s on the eggs because they needed to know when to turn them,” said Sam. He also said that they have to turn them 1 time a night and 2 times a day. “The incubator heats the eggs,” said Sam. Sam said that to candle it to put a candle to an egg and look at it. Sam said that he could see a black dot in the egg.

            He said they eat the yolk in the egg for food. Sam said it takes 21 days for the eggs to hatch. He also felt cool when the eggs hatched. He said that the coins in the water where for the chicks to know were the food and water is. He also said they eat chicken food for a meal. Sam said he liked the hatching part most of all.

            Sam had a lot of fun watching the chicks hatch. Mr.K’s class loved the chicks.

In Coming Chicks!

            This year in Mrs. Bromley’s class the students hatched chicks. Adam is a student in Mrs. Bromley’s class.

            Mr. Zupin gave Mrs. Bromley’s the eggs but Adam thought it was April, when Adam first saw the eggs he thought they were normal Adam also said,” The eggs were white and brown”. The first thing they had do to with the eggs was to put them in the incubator. Adam said,” They had to put X’s and O’s on the eggs so they could hatch. They also had to turn them over 21 times a day but really they only had to be turned over 3 times a day. Adam also said,” An Incubator is were you put the eggs in and it is set to one hundred degrees. Candling is were you put any eggs over a flashlight and see the chick in side the egg. Adam said,” he saw a chicken”. The baby chick grew because they had to keep warm.

            It takes about 21 days for the chicks to hatch Adam felt excited when he saw the eggs. The coins are in the food and water so it is cold water but really they are there so the chicks can see their food and water.

            Adam's favorite part was when getting their fur. It was fun interviewing kindergarteners because Adam was nice and listened very well. He is a great student.

Great Chick Adventure

            This year in Mrs. Bromley’s class the students hatched chicks. Ethan is a student in Mrs. Bromely’s class.

            Ethan thought that a man with glasses brought the eggs, but it really was Mr. Zupin. When he first saw the eggs he thought they were fighting! Ethan said, “The eggs were white.” The first thing he had to do was to write X’s and O’s on them. He said that the X’s and O’s were on them to now when to turn them over. He also said that every day he had to role them over. He had to do that nine days, but it was really three times a day. “An incubator is something that keeps them warm,” said Ethan. Ethan said that candling is when they use a flashlight to see inside the egg. He said that he saw black spots inside the eggs. He said that the baby chicks eat there yoke.

            Ethan said that eggs hatch after a couple of weeks. When they hatched he felt really excited. He said that they put coins in the food and water so it will help them see. Ethan said that the baby chicks eat corn feed. He said he liked them and the grown up chickens most about hatching the eggs.

Ethan wants to hatch eggs again. Ethan is a really great student.

The Big Chicks

            This year Mrs. Bromley class hatched eggs. Jeremy is a student in Mrs. Bromley class.

            Mr. Zupin brought the eggs to the class. The first time Jeremy saw the eggs he was excited. Jeremy said the eggs where white. The first thing the class did is put X’s and O’s on the eggs. Jeremy thought that they put the X’s and O’s on them to look cool. Jeremy also said that they had to flip the eggs. Jeremy flips the eggs once a day. He said the incubator keep them at 100*F He also said that candling is where they shin a light on the eggs to see the chicks in them. He could see the chick. Jeremy said the would eat chicken food in the eggs.

            Then the chicks came out of the shells. Jeremy said “It toke about ten days for them to hatch”. When he saw the first chick he was really excited. Jeremy also said the coins in there food and water were to hold that stuff down. Jeremy said “The chicks eat corn”. Jeremy favorite part was watching them hatch.

            There were twenty two chicks. Jeremy liked the chicks a lot.

Little Peeps

Students in Mrs. Bromley’s class hatched eggs this year. Hayden and Jade are in Mrs. Bromley’s class this year.

Jade and Hayden said, “Mr.k had given them the eggs but Mr. Zupin had really brought the eggs in.” Jade and Hayden both said, “That all the eggs were white, brown, green.” Hayden thought the first thing they had to do was put the eggs in the box witch is also called the incubator. Jade thought they had to put X’s and O’s on them so they could tell if they were boys or girls.”

Hayden thought that they had to flip the eggs every day. Hayden thought they flipped the eggs five times a day. Really they only flipped them three times a day. Jade thought that the Box {also called the incubator} keeps the eggs warm. Hayden thought that candling is were you put the egg on the flash light. Jade thought she saw a chicken growing.” Hayden thought that is took 20 days for the eggs to hatch but it really takes 21 days for the eggs to hatch. Jade and Hayden were both very excited when the eggs hatched. Hayden thought that the coins were in there food and water so they could find there food and water. Jade thought the chickens ate chicken food.

Jade and Hayden both like looking at the chickens. Jade and Hayden’s Favorite part is looking at the chicks.  They will never forget hatching eggs.

Furry Friends

     This year in Mrs. Bromley’s class the students hatched chicks. Evan is a student in Mrs. Bromley’s class.

     This year Mr. Zupin gave the eggs to the kindergarten. When Evan first saw the eggs he thought they were not cool. Evan said, “That the eggs were orange, purple and green.” The next thing they did is put X’s and O’s on the eggs. The reason why they had to put X’s and O’s on the eggs so they can keep them warm. They had to turn the eggs over. The number of times they had to turn them over was three times a day. The incubator helped to keep the eggs warm. Candling is something that you put under a glass thing to see the chick. What they put it under the glass was an egg. The baby chick grew by pecking on the eggs!

         The class had eggs and they started to hatch. It took 21 days for the baby chicks to hatch. When the eggs hatched Evan said, “The reason why they put coins in the water is to keep the chicks able to see the food. “The chicks ate baby chick food”, Evan said.  The most part that Evan liked is that when the chicks hatched out of the egg!

                     Evan had the best time hatching chicks! He had so much fun watching the baby chicks hatch!
