Fifth Graders Write About Their Chosen Topic

This year I made the 5^th grade quiz bowl team. Quiz bowl is where you compete against other schools by answering questions by hitting the buzzer before the other team does. We are playing at Trinity Lutheran School. We are going to have t-shirts. They are going to be lime green tie-dye. My team is Braden, Alyssan, Kim Carter, Keegan, and me. Quiz bowl is really fun because it’s competitive and it’s a lot of fun meeting other people from the other schools. I am really excited to be on the team this year. We haven’t made up with a name yet but we will. Being on the quiz bowl team is really cool. ~Logan

           This year I am in cheerleading. It’s so much fun. There are so many people in cheerleading. There are fifth and sixth graders. The coach is Erin Brown. She is so nice. We have learned so many cheers. Some of the cheers are dribble it, ready to go, dynamite, clear the way, let’s go, and we don’t mess around. So far we have had about four to five practices. Our first game is this coming Monday. One cheer called the Onekama Train is so embarrassing.  Yesterday we got our uniforms. I think cheerleading is awesome. I want to be in cheerleading next year. This year I’m on the Quiz Bowl team. Quiz Bowl is really fun. We are getting t-shirts for our team. We still have to figure out a name. My teammate’s mom is organizing the t-shirts. They are going to be lime green tie-die. They will have our names on the back of our t-shirts or jerseys. My teammates are Braden, Logan, Keegan, Alyssan, Kim, and me. Our team is awesome.           This year I’m in cheerleading. Erin Brown is our coach for cheerleading. The first practice we had Erin, and Courtney.M’s mom measured our hips, thighs, and butt. Then when we were done we got to talk and stuff. Then Erin gathered us around and gave us a sheet about the switching of the boy’s basketball game. Then we all went home. After a couple of days we got a note that said we needed to pay an extra eight dollars for the body suits. Then at our second practice we learned Rowdy, Dynamite, Ready to go, and We don’t mess around! Then at one of our practices we got our body suits, tops, and bottoms. After we picked out our sizes we put them on. Then we got our pictures taken, and then we cheered some more. Cheerleading is fun! ~no name on paper

Cheerleading is really fun and exciting. My best friend Maddy and I are on the cheer team. It is Maddys’ first time cheering but it is my 7^th year. Our cheer coach is Erin Brown she is really nice. There are at least 15 people on our team the team is a mix between 5^th and 6^th graders. We have learned at least 15 cheers at the most. My and Maddys’ favorite cheer is E.I.E.I.E.I.O. After that I pushed Maddy in the boys bathroom it was really funny. Everybody was laughing really hard. Daniell cam over and high fived me while she was laughing.           This year in fifth grade I’m in cheerleading. After school we have cheerleading and about every Tuseday and Thursday we have practice. We are cheering for the fifth grade boys weird. There some pretty cool cheers. My favorites are hott to go, rowdy, Onekama train, the mighty Portagers, Dynamite, alligator, and we don’t mess around. Our coach is Erin Brown. She’s really nice and it’s fun being on the team or squad what ever you want to call it. We are having so much fun. ~no name on paper

          This year I’m in cheerleading. We have been practicing for cheerleading since February.  The 5^th and 6^th grade girls are mixed together for cheerleading. In cheerleading there are 18 girls. That’s the most girls there has ever been. We had a practice a couple days ago and Larissa had been messing around with Madison and had pushed Madison in to the boys bathroom. We were out in the hallway practicing when she did this and she was even in the hallway practicing with us. We have our first game to cheerlead for on Monday. We have to get white cheerleading shoes too. We had our cheerleading pictures yesterday. That means we had to get our uniforms yesterday. Our uniforms have a yellow skirt and a top that says Onekama on it. Then we had to get into our uniforms and they were kind of uncomfortable at first but hen we got used to it. We have anther practice today till 4 thirty. I’m very glad that I’m in cheerleading. ~no name on paper

          Just a while ago are school took us to Crystal Mountain to go skiing. We had to have a partner so I picked Lacee to be my partner. At first we got on the bus and headed to Crystal Mountain. Then we had to go to the lodge and wait to be called down to get are ski boots, and skis. After we got are skis on we had to go to the bunny hill to get are lift tickets. It only took Lacee and I two times to get off the bunny hill. After we got are tickets we went to low-keys chair lift. When we got to the top we went on Cut Off. While we were going down I lost my hat. So we skied down the hill to the chair lift again. When we got to the top we went down on Cut Off again. Lacee tried to get my hat and her ski fell off and her leg was stuck. When I tried to get it I got it but I flipped over and hurt myself. Then my skis got tangled but then I got them strait. When I got them strait I hit a tree then rolled down another hill and Lacee was at the bottom already, but then finely I made it to the bottom. Skiing with Lacee was really fun!  ~No name on paper

          Yesterday I went skiing at Crystal Mountain. First I went skiing with McKayla and Michelle. We went on the Loki chair lift first and went down Nasons Trail and headed for the Loki again. Then we went up the Loki and then that time we went down Emmy and headed for the Crystal Clipper. Then we went down N11. Then when we got to the bottom my phone rang and it was my grandma calling to say there by the Crystal Clipper. So I went and showed them to the lodge. Then I went up the Crystal Clipper and went down Nasons Trail and went to the Loki chair lift and I saw Brandi, Courtney .L, and Mackenzie. Mackenzie said she wanted to ski with Courtney .L by herself. So I went with Brandi. Brandi and I went up the Loki chair lift again and saw Keith and Courtney .M. Courtney and I went up the Crystal Clipper and went down N11 and went to the Buck chair lift. Then it started to hail outside and it was hurting are faces so we stop skiing for a while. Then when it started to snow we went and skied again. When I was going down the hill I hit a jump and went flying and hurt my back. Then we went up the Clipper again and when we got of the chair lift slowed down and I couldn’t get off so I tried to jump and I got of and fell on my butt. Then we went in and ate some food. Then we went outside and the moon was shinning and then when Courtney and I got up the hill it started to rain. Then after a couple minutes we went back and tried to dry up because we were all wet. Then we went back outside and skied two more runs and then Courtney .M had to leave. So then I found Brandi and I skied with her. Then it started to rain harder so we went and returned are skis and got on the bus. After about 10 minutes the bus left Crystal Mountain. When we were in Bear Lake Brandi called her mom and said we were in Bear lake. Brandi said her mom had a bad back and she couldn’t drive. So she asked me if I could call my dad and see if we could give her a ride home. My dad said we would give her a ride home. Then we went and dropped off. Then my dad and I went home.          A little while ago my school went to Crystal Mountain. We had to have a partner and my partner was Jessica. It only took two times to get off the bunny hill. When we got off the hill we went on a chair lift. My partner and I went on a trail. When we were on the trail Jessica lost her hat. So we went on a chair lift again and I tried to get her hat but then Jessica got her hat. Then I fell and could not get up again. Jessica lost her ski and could not get it on. Then she got it on and almost ran into a tree. I could not get up until I got down to the bottom of the hill. When we were at the bottom of the hill we were getting on a chair lift and I fell and then Jessica fell next to me. Then we got up and got on the chair lift. Then we went on a different trail. I had fun at Crystal Mountain. I had a very very fun time. ~Lacee

          This year I am in cheerleading. Yesterday we got our uniforms. We also got our pictures. All of my friends are in cheerleading. For example, Ashley, Jessica, Somer, Brandi, Courtney L, Courtney M, and Larissa. The sixth graders are in cheerleading also. Some of are cheers are Ready to go, Dribble it, Dynamite, and Clear the way. Our coach is Erin Brown. She is a really nice coach. She is not like the basketball coaches on ESPN. I think she is the best coach I ever had. I really love cheerleading. My favorite cheer is Dynamite. The Onekama train is really embarrassing. I am going to be in cheerleading next year because cheerleading is the best sport ever. We are going to cheer for the 5^th and 6^th grade boys basketball team. Cheerleading is the best. ~Tiffany

This year I’m AAU  in basketball. We had are first game Saturday the 21. We played three games in one day. I was tired by the time we got home. We did not win any games but I still thing we did a good job. We have seven girls on are team. I think we all had a lot of fun.  ~no name on paper  

          This year I’m in AAU. In AAU you don’t play it like a season you play it in tournaments. Our first tournaments were in Midland. We played three games. We didn’t win any of our games, but that’s okay. Even though we didn’t win any games we improved a lot. After every game we got a half an hour brake. Our next tournaments are in March, but I don’t know where. My basketball number is ten. Ten is also my favorite number. I play a wing on offense and I play a Zone or a Center on defense. I can’t wait for our next game I am so exited. I love basketball! It is so much fun. I like my AAU team.  ~no name on paper

          Next Tuesday we are having a quizboul tournament. I’m the machinist for the team. I was really scared at first because I thought I wasn’t going to be good. Then there was a back up machinist but she became the score keeper for the team. She is kind of good has being a score keeper. We beat Mrs. Brown’s team by a land slide. They were pretty good but we beat them. We shook hands and there was no fight. Then Mr. Neph asked me to try the score for once I did okay but I messed up a little bit. Then he asked me to do it again but I did a lot better this time but he said I would be a great machinist. Then he had to decide who was on the team he had to kick some people out of the team. Then two people were in a fight because one of them is not going to make the team. So they stop two days after the fight was going on. Then we were all happy that was over. Now all we need to do is get a team. I love that I’m going to be machinist but what until I see all the people staring at me and the team. Its great to be the machinist.    ~No name on paper  

          I love quiz bowl, but I’m not on a team. It was so much fun trying to get on the team. Our quiz bowl team beat Mrs. Brown’s one hundred and fifteen to five. I almost made the team. I don’t really mind as long as our team wins. The team is Kyler, Spencer, Hunter, Cynthia, and two people he hasn’t picked yet. Our score keeper is Abby, and our machinist is Alexa. I hope either our team wins, or Mrs. Brown’s team wins!   ~no name

I got picked to be on quiz bowl. I was so happy! The object of the game is to buzz in if you know the answer of the question before the other team. If you interrupt and get it wrong your team loses five points. If you  get it right your team earns 10 points. When you get to 50 you win!  I think I am going to have fun!  ~No name on paper

Last weekend the scouts went to a Red Wings game. It took me and my dad three and a half or four hours to get to Joe stadium. When we got there we found are sets and got some thing eat. We want to Litter Caesar’s to eat. I got a pepper super slice and my dad got a supreme half pizza. Then we went to are sets and some bodies stuff was there. Then I saw Jack and Mr.Corell  and they seed that stuff was there’s. Jack and I tried to catch a puck from the players but we did not get one. At the end of the game Red Wings scored with 6.5 secants to go. We won 5 to 2 agenst the Middy Ducks. Then we got to watch a movie on the Jumbo tran. Before the we got a poster and a stone that seed all there staly cup wins. Then we went to sleep and in the morning we went to Burger King and ate with Jack. Then me and my dad went to a boat show. Then we left in the storm. It was horrible because we could not see in snow and two plow trucks were throwing snow. Then we ate and a semi was doing the same thing happened. Then we got home and saw my mom and sister. I had a great time last weekend. ~No name on paper                 

Yesterday I went skiing. It was not that fun. It rained a lot. The snow was not that good but I still had some fun. I went I the woods a lot. I skied with Jams and Courtney M. I almost hit a tree. I like skiing a lot. I think I should have staid home with my mom but I went skiing. So I got socked. I went on N11, Main Street, Stout Cut and Emmy. Skiing is easy for me and I like it. When I got home I ate 2 cookies. Then I went to bad. I had fun yesterday.  ~No name on paper 

            Last Tuesday was our last Junior Achievement. I was very sad that Mrs. Punches had to go. But then after she left I was not sad any more. We had Junior Achievement. Our class got to make a poster of a business. We wonted our own business. So she let us share them. Then we where getting grated on it.   ~No name on paper

          My favorite thing to do is ski. I ski at Crystal Mountain on Thursdays. I like to go on green and blue hills. My favorite hills are Emmy and N11. I ski with Keith and Keegan. I also like to go on the chair lifts. My favorite chair lift is the Crystal Clipper. I thing skiing is really fun. ~No name on paper
