This year I am playing football. I am playing pop Warner football. Some of my friends are playing too. There are a lot of kids playing football.  One of my best friends is playing on my team. His name is Gerald. We have to do a lot of practices it is kind of tiring but it is fun. So far we have won 1 game and lost all of them before but we are planning to win the jamboree. We also tide a game too the game we tide was Kinsley.  We tide 13 to13 we were prity upset. We really want to win the jamboree. I have 3 coaches their names are Chad Echardth Coach Kemph and Coach Pefley. That is so far on my foot ball team. ~Elijah H.

      I play on the Manistee boys’ soccer team.  We aren’t the best team out there but we get the job done.  For example, we haven’t beet a team our score to nothing but we can still rock ’n’ roll.  We can also act pretty darn stupid out there, another example is, our goal keeper is so slow that sometimes the soccer ball bounces right off him and goes right in for a goal against our team.  UH!  We need some work.  I still find playing in games fun and exiting, but when it’s you getting whooped out there, it’s not as fun . . . trust me, I know!  Yeah, we’ve taken our share of beatings but we’ve still got the spirit for the game!! 
      I am probably the best kicker on the team but not the best player (or the best runner) but I am always bringing a smile to my team mates’ faces . . . even when we’ve lost a game at our home field!  My nickname is the Armor Piercing Bullet because I can out-fox almost any defender.  It’s so fun to play soccer!  It’s the game of competitive excitement and I would recommend it to anybody who wanted to play another sport.  None of the players on my team go to Onekama Elementary but me.  That is why I can’t socialize with them about the happenings of Onekama Elementary, which can be pretty interesting. I love playing soccer and I always will!!! ~Cameron

In 5^th grade I do safety Patrol. It is a after and before activity have don top, out side door and cross walk. It is fun to help the kids of the school. Me and my mom and my brother go to school 7:30 thats15 minutes early so I can be on duty at 7:45. Jordan is this month captain. We switch the first day of the month and I wont to be next captin so I can choose the captin the people on duty...I do morning duty. There are two captins one for morning and one for afternoon. Miss. Millark chooses captins at the first of each month. ~Sean M.

          Hi, I’m Louise. I am one of very few in girl scouts. There are only four girls; Katie, Emily and Kayla. Plus me of course. We usually have snack when we get there. While we’re eating snack we talk about our badges. Last time I earned a badge. I have to do research on the flute too. I’m also working toward a swimming badge. I have to swim the front crawl 25 yards. Also we have to glide six feet. Last week we made magnet yarn leaves. We got a paper leaf and coyeld yarn on it. Then we stuck a magnet on the back. They looked cool because they all looked different like real leaves. I love going to girl scouts. ~Louise B. 

      This year I am playing traveling Soccer. In traveling soccer we get to go to Ludington and Muskegon. Three of the girls go to my school and there names are Caitlin, Tawny and Hailey. The names of our coaches are Mr. Guillen and Dan Pistoski. The only game we one the first game and we lost all the other Games. It is fun to play traveling soccer. ~Taylor M.

         This year I am playing girls 5^th grade basketball. We stared basketball the 17 or 18 of September. We have 2 coaches Randy Kott and Susan Zielinski. We have a lot of players on our team. I have my best friend on team, her name in Hanah .G. We have practice almost every Thursday. We do a lot of things at practice like lay ups with our right hand and then with our left hand. We also play against each other our coaches put us in our spots I am usually guard. Our first game is on October 30^th. I can not wait for it. ~Julie L.

          This year I am playing 5^th grade basketball. We practice on Thursday, Friday, and sometimes Saturday. Our coaches are Randy Kott and Susan Zielinski. Some of the things we practice are lay ups, dribbling, and passing. We do chest passes and bounce passes. We also learn to dribble with our right and left hand. I think lay ups are the hardest things we have to learn. Usually Hanah and I play forward because we are some of the tallest people on our team. The schools we play are MCC, Brethren, and Bear Lake. I am really glad I joined basketball this year.   ~Janique B.

      5th Grade is very fun, and I play pop Warner Football. I have practice every week. My coaches are Chad E., Jeff Pefly, and Chris Kemp.  We also play games every Saturday. The days we practice on are Tuesday, Wednesday, and Thursday. We aren’t the best but we try are hardest. We won one game so far and tied another. I hope we win this upcoming game this Saturday. I think 5^th grade is fun and I also like football too.   ~Gerald E.

          This year I’m playing 5^th grade girls basketball. Basketball started on September 18^th. Are coaches are Randy Kott and Susan Zielinski. On the first day of practice I saw all my friends, I’m so glad that some of my best friends are on the team. Practice was very difficult we had to run lines; lines are when you run from line to line down the basketball court as fast as you can. Every basketball practice we do lay ups, I still need a lot of practice before I’ll be doing anything. We have a game on the 30^th of October. I’m really glad I signed up for basketball and I hope I get better at that lay up. ~Anna B.

          I am going to do book bowl this with some of my friends. The friends that are going to be with me are I think Devin, Jarrett and Lawrence. I think that book bowl might be awesome to do with my friends. I don’t know what the questions might be for the book bowl because I haven’t read the books yet for it. I hope that we win the book bowl this year. We are going to call our team the yees because we think it would be a good name for our team because it’s a sweet name to us. In the book bowl we have to answer questions from a book bowl book, we also get time to think of an answer for the question asked. If you get the question wrong it will be asked to one of the other teams on the book bowl. I hope that my team and I win the book bowl this year.   ~A.F.

      In 5^th grade my favorite subject is Art. I love anything that has to do with Drawing, Sketches, Doodle, Colors, and Japanese Animation Movies and Books. I love Art because I believe I can Draw or Sketch anything I try to do. Right now as a little bit of a Secret Project. The Project is a special sort of Cartoon Animated Movie.
     Art is what makes me Happy. I’ve won prizes for art I draw and I am hoping to get better and better. Art is great because it is usually very, very, Entertaining. Art is also a very fun thing to make and to see. There are many Art Organizations but I’m with 4.
       Organizations can sometimes be a really fun thing to do. The Art Organizations are actually one of my hobbies. Art is something I can do and enjoy. That is why I love Art!!  ~Tucker L.

           In the fifth grade we have been doing some exciting things. Some of the things we did were like making a scarecrow. Are scarecrow was an Onekama Portager football player scarecrow. My teachers name is Mr. Neph. Mr. Neph is a really exciting and nice teacher. Mrs. Bennett is my L.A. teacher. She is just like Mr. Neph. My math teachers name is Mrs. Brown. I am really enjoying all of the subjects that we do daily. We have been meaping and I’ve been enjoying that to. I am playing the trombone in band. The trombone gets heavy only sometimes. For my AR book in fifth grade is “Harry Potter and the Goblet of Fire”. This year we might be going on the S.S Badger. I’ve joined Safety Patrol in the fifth grade. When it gets to the end of the year safety patrol gets to go to Michigan Adventure. In the fifth grade we got to get all new math books. In my homeroom the people in my group are Elijah, Alexis, Megan, Russell, and me. In my class we got four new kids. All of them I made friends with. We did the calendar drawings in art. We did the month of May. I did a picture of the school. The school got brand new computers in the computer lab. In the fifth grade we got a lot bigger Social studies books than last year. Are band teachers name is Mrs. Graham. Are art teachers name is Ms. Woolman. We are done with the language arts meap. Last year we got Friday activity and this year we don’t but that’s ok. My name is Tawny and I am in fifth grade.  I like gym, L.A., math, and science.  I like to play football at recess.  Hailey, Jon, Jordan, Payton, Russell, and Andrew are my friends.

My name is Russell and I am in fifth grade.  I like band and gym the best.  My friends are Thomas, Lawrence, Hailey, and Tawny.  I like to play football at recess.  In the winter, I like to slide down the hill. 

My name is Lawrence and I am in fifth grade.  I like gym, art, and recess.  I like to play football at recess.  Russell, Aaron, and Thomas are my friends at school.     

          This year I’m playing football. It’s cool because last year there was only one team but this year there are three. The teams are Manistee-gold which is my team and Manistee-blue and Manistee-white. On offense I play quarterback and fullback. On defense I play linebacker and tight end and safety. I like defense more than offense because I get to tackle people on the other team. Our record is 4-2. We have one more team to play and they are going to be a very tough team. We are going to have to play are best to beat these guys. There record is 5-1 they are just as good as we are. I sure hope we win because it will be sweet. ~Jarett S.

          This year in the fifth grade I decided to play fifth grade basketball. Our coach is Randy Kott. I can’t wait till our first game. I hope I get to play forward. Forward is under the hoop. I love to go to basketball practice.  Practice lasts about two hours. My best friends play basketball too. Their names are Julie, Hailey, and Tawny. Our fist game is this October 30^th I can not wait. Fifth grade basketball is awesome!    ~Hanah G.

This year I play 6^th grade basketball I really am in 5^th grade but I have fun playing with the 6^th grade girls. My friend Kayla plays with me. Our coach (Randy) on 5^th grade basketball asked us if we wanted to be on the 6^th grade team. We wanted to really bad but first we wanted to see what it was like. There was a practice on Sunday for the 6^th grade basketball team so we went and we had so much fun. When we were there we learned to do a 3 man weave but me and Kayla say 3 girl weave. We went to another one on Tuesday October 16, 2007 we had to make up our minds if we wanted to be on the 5^th grade basketball team or the 6^th grade basketball team. I and Kayla talked about it the next day we told our moms that we wanted to be on the 6^th grade basketball team. Before we went to 6^th grade practice we learned a lot of stuff from Randy. He showed us how to do a lay-up. I sometimes still can’t do a left hand lay-up. When we where in practice Mrs. Turk came in and she told us that we were pretty good and we didn’t like what she said next what she said was that we had to write our goal and our teams goal. I wrote that my goal was to get better at doing a left hand lay-up. My team’s goal was to just have fun. We don’t do really any scrimmage but its still fun when we get to run and the 6^th graders call this one thing called Bloody Mary. Its pretty much just running when you have to go touch one line come back and touch the line you started at and go and touch the next line. I like playing with the 6^th and 5^th grade basketball players. ~Alexis T.

In the fifth grade we have been doing meap test.  There are three different meap tests. We’ve only done two of them. The ones we have done are Math and L.A. we still need to do Science. I liked the math one the best because it was so easy. The L.A. one was really hard because you had to write and figure out what the author’s opinion was. I don’t know how hard the science one will be. On the L.A. meap test you couldn’t figure it out if you didn’t look back. The math one you couldn’t use a calculator you had to write them down I can’t wait to do the science meap test. I can’t wait until next year’s meap test. ~Devin C.

I do safety patrol after school I go out side and stand by the buses. My job is to keep everyone safe. The position that I like the most is front. Front is ware you stand by the first bus. There are 7 positions on the bus loading zone. We get out of school early by ten minutes. Everyone that plays football does safety patrol. The position that you pick you’re that position all week. I’m safety patrol this week I am front. At the end of the year we go to Michigan Advancer or Great Wolf Lodge. I want to go to Great Wolf Lodge but we will just have to see we go. ~Andrew C. 

    This year I played pop Warner football. It is my second year of football. Most of my friends are on the team from last year or from my school the rest I don’t know. My coaches name is coach Wisniski. I think he’s a good coach. Are teams is 4 and 6 this year and last year we only won one game and it was the last game of the season. I have about 19 tackles this year and we have one more game this year and last year I had 27 tackles. I don’t know what happened this year I started well on tackles but then hurt my ankle kind of bad. I had fun over the football season this year.  ~Payton B.

     This year in 5^th grade I want to do quiz bowl. I would also like to do book bowl. They both seem interesting and fun. Quiz bowl is where you have buzzers. You are asked questions, and when you want to answer a question you press a button on the buzzer. This is a team activity. If you or one of your team members answers a question correctly you earn a point. The team with the most points at the end wins. Book bowl is the same. Except for the questions in quiz bowl are the things you learn in class. The questions in book bowl are about parts in different books. I think it would be really fun. ~Katie H.

          Hello… my name is Jacinda. I am in 5^th grade as you might well know already. My home row teacher’s name is Mr. Neph. I think that he is very funny. I love being in his class. I have two very good friends in my table group. Their names are Kayla F. and Louise B. In Mr. Neph’s class I enjoy doing things like reading, science, and working on computers. In reading we are reading a book called Sign of the Beaver. So far we are only on chapter 3, but it is still a really good book. In science we are doing the MEAP and in computer class we are learning how to type on the keyboard. Anyway, Mr. Neph is a really great teacher, and I really enjoy being in his class.  ~Jacinda M. 

          This year in 5^th grade I am playing on a traveling soccer team. Three of my friends are doing traveling soccer too there names are Taylor, Tawny, and Hailey. Are coaches are Mr. Guillian and Dan Pistoski. We practice every Monday, Wednesday, and sometimes Friday. On our first game we scored six and Muskegon scored four. All are other games we scored nothing. Before our games we form a circle and say we are soccer super stars. We stretch out before our games and practices.            One of my favorite sports is basketball. This year I am in 5^th grade basket ball. Our coach is Randy Kott and Susan Zielinski. We’ve been learning how to pass .One of the passes are called chest passes. The other one is called a bounce pass. We are also learning how to dribble with our right hand and left hand. One of the hardest things we are learning is called a lay up. When we start playing we will play a couple of schools. We will play MCC, Bear Lake, and brethren. My favorite position is forward. I think basketball is a really fun sport and I am having a really fun time.    ~Megan S.

          This year I’m playing pop Warner football in the 5^th grade. My teams name is Manistee Gold. My coach’s names are Tom Williams, Troy Nezki, and Erik Sovereign. We have won 4 games out of 6. On my team I kick the kick off’s and the field goals on my team. I’ve got 8 sacks in one game. The positions I play are full back, right tackle, and defense end. One game a kid on my team tried a field goal but hit the referee in the head and knocked off his sun glasses. There are three Manistee pop Warner teams. There are Manistee Gold, White, and Blue. I have got a lot of tackles. The quarter backs on my team are Jarett, Austin, and Nick. The centers on my team are Brandon G. and Steven P.   ~~Jonathan E.

          This year I am playing pop worner football. My coach is Mr. Wisniski. Half my team is made of Onekama kids Like Braden, Jon A., Caleb, and Hunter. All of them are running backs exempt hunter he is the center. The center is the person that hikes the ball to the QB and that’s what I am.  ~Jordan C.

     I like the meap so far. We are done with the ELA, and Math and next week we are starting science. I think the meap is fun. For ELA we have Mrs. Bennett, and for Math we have Mrs. Brown. And for science we have Mr. Neph. And the meap that is fun. Everyone in the world takes the meap test. Like Ohio, Idaho, Michigan. But there is more than them in the world. The meap is so fun I can do it two times in a row. Like finch it and do it again. ~Danielle R.
