Dear Parents:

          This test was from theme #3, Good Friends. On this test I pretty much let the class work on its own. I helped them with finding the answers for questions 3 (in Part 2), 12 (in Part 3), and I read the news report in Part 4 to them. I also made them show me the proof they found in the story for their answer to question 3 (in part 2) before they wrote their answer. I left it up to them to find the proof for questions 4-11 (in Part 2) on their own.  

          I have the class meet on another day to go over their test. Then I have the students “fix” their answers. That is why, hopefully, their answers seem to be correct when I have them marked wrong.

          For the first 2 tests of the year I read the story and we found the answers for all items in parts 1 and 2 together so they knew how to go back and find answers on the future tests. We also completed item 19 together in part 4. Please go over this test with your child to make sure that he/she found proof for the answers to questions 4-11. I have really emphasized that it is important to go back into the story and find the answer to a question about the story before they answer the question. Please help to back this strategy up at home tooJ.

          To see how your child scored on a particular part, look at the score I circled and move your finger up to the top where it says “Part Scores:” Remember, if your child scores poorly on one or more parts, it is not the end of the world, but a guide for us to work more closely with those skills!
