A Look Back and Ahead

Looking back on week three we have really started to get fine-tuned and into “the groove”. The children are putting out some very nice projects and turning in well thought ideas.

During this last week in Reading we read “Arthur’s Pet Business”. We worked with nouns, real/fantasy, and plot. We also learned problem solving strategies to answer questions from the reading and we made a poster, advertising a lost pet. This next week we will be reading the story “Julius”. “Julius” is about a messy pig that learns his manners and a girl who learns about friendship. We will be reviewing more nouns, proper nouns, real/fantasy, and going over plot. We will continue working with the problem solving strategies weekly.

For Writing we will be continuing the three types of sentences/punctuation marks. The students will be making up sentences that have capitals, end marks, naming/action parts.

We worked hard this week on counting by 1’s, 5’s, and 10’s. We also worked on counting change. The students will be reviewing the values of coins and counting change during Math time. We will also be reviewing the parts of a clock and how to tell time to the nearest 5 minutes. If you get a chance, please practice working with clocks.

In Social Studies we have sketched our community, focusing on our house and the town we live by. We will be looking at the natural and man-made characteristics and how the two are inter-twined next.

Sincerely,

Ben Mauntler
