A Look Back and Ahead |
Friday |
In Reading this last week we read “Nature Spy”. That book was about a girl who focus’ on looking at things more closely. We worked on and will continue working on identifying topic/main idea/supporting details and with looking at things more closely. At the end of the week we went into the children’s garden and drew a section from far away and up close. The next book we are reading is called “What Lives in a Shell?” It is a book that explores the different kinds of shells found in nature and the animals that live in them/depend on them. If you have any shells you would like to share with us (to observe or give away) we would love to have them. For Writing we will continue to work with complete sentences. The students have been and will continue making up sentences that have capitals, end marks, naming/action parts. In spelling we have added words to our spelling dictionaries. We will have our first spelling test this next week on October 23. Each child has made their own list from the words I have chosen for them. The spelling list is written on lined paper with the word first, and the sentence following. The test date is on the top of the spelling list. Look for study nights on the homework! |
During Math we worked on subtraction strategies. We worked with -1, -0, and -9/-8 shortcuts. We also made fact families and reviewed the counting down and counting up strategies. We will be working with finding count-bys for “frames and arrows” problems next week. We will also review strategies and complete our unit 2 assessment. Please continue working with flashcards, telling time, and counting change at home. Thank you to Mrs. Blevins for coming in each week and running the register for the school storeJ Thank you also Mrs. Falk for giving us time on Fridays.
Sincerely, Ben Mauntler
