A Look Back and Ahead |

For Reading this last week we read “Where Does the Trail Lead?” In that book a boy took us for a tour on a trail around Summertime Island! We worked on looking at the stops along the way more closely. At the end of the week we made a map of Summertime Island. Next week we will be taking the theme test. For Writing we will continue to work with complete sentences. The students have been and will continue making up sentences that have capitals, end marks, naming/action parts. We finally had our first spelling test this week. For each spelling list, each child makes their own list from the words I have chosen for them. The spelling list is written on lined paper with the word first, and the sentence following. The test date is on the top of the spelling list. Look for study nights on the homework! During Math we started Unit 3. It deals primarily with place value and counting coins to a higher amount. We worked on buying items with exact change this week. We will be working with clocks and counting change back next week. Please continue working with flashcards, telling time, and counting change at home. |
To go along with the “Be a Nature Detective” theme we built terrariums. These will be kept in the room until the end of the year when the children will bring them home. Remember we will be going to the Spirit of the Woods Club on Thursday, November 8. We will be eating lunch there and walking on trails as part of a drawing scavenger hunt. Thank you in advance to all the parents who have volunteered their time and energy to go along with us. Friday there is no school for students. There is an in-service for the staff (I get to go to school!). To all the parents, thank you for a wonderful Halloween party. The costumes were magnificent!
