A Look Back and Ahead

Jan. 25, 2008

For Reading this last week we worked with the story “Now One Foot, Now the Other”. We worked with predicting, sequencing, cause/effect, and plot. We will continue all those skills for next week’s story: “Too Many Tamales”.

For Writing we will continue to work with complete sentences and writing paragraphs, with main ideas and supporting details, in our morning journals.

We finally got our spelling lists done this week. The next test will be January 29th. Please have your child practice their words Monday/Tuesday next week.

During Math we worked with symmetry. We reviewed fact families and counting into the thousands. We concluded the week by taking the unit 5 assessment. I will be devoting next week (or at least 3 days) to teaching the skill of carrying the ten from the ones place to the tens place. We will start by using the base-ten blocks and working our way to solving them with pencil and paper without the use of blocks. Please continue working with flashcards, memorizing those facts has come in handy and will continue to come in handy.

Hopefully your child brought home and went over his/her report card with you! There were a lot of excited little faces when they previewed their grades here at school, and rightly so. They have been working hard so far this year and have been progressing very nicely. If you have any questions/concerns please contact me.

Please keep in mind that our new day is Monday for “School Store”. Also, I have decided that instead of having it open each week, we will go every other week. We will not have it January 28th, but rather, on February 4th. Thank you Mrs. Blevins for all your time. J

I will remember to send home a book order (someday soon I hope!). I will have the students write the due date on the order form. I am shooting for having it turned back in next week on Thursday.

Sincerely,

Ben Mauntler
