For Reading this last week we worked with the story “Watch Out, Ronald Morgan!” We worked with sequencing, cause/effect, and plot. We will continue all those skills for next week’s story: “What Kind of Babysitter Is This?”

For Writing we will continue to work with complete sentences. The students have been and will continue making up sentences that have capitals, end marks, naming/action parts. We will continue writing paragraphs, with main ideas and supporting details, in our morning journals. We have started proofreading our work. Please go over your child’s work in their Thursday folders, maybe pick an assignment they wrote and practice proofreading with them, if the mood strikes.

We worked on our new spelling lists at the end of this week. We will need time to finish them next week. The next test will be early the following week (17th or 18th).

During Math we started unit 4 which deals primarily with double-digit addition strategies. Please practice these strategies with your child. The dice games lend themselves easily to practicing. I am sending home the home links that explain the addition strategies and the notes explaining the dice games. Please keep them handy for game night! We will continue practicing those addition strategies next week as well as work with temperature. Please continue working with flashcards, memorizing those facts has come in handy and will continue to come in handy. If you feel your child is ready to advance with his/her flashcards, please let me know on the homework sheet. I will test him/her that day. Kathy Cook has been testing on Thursdays and Fridays, she will continue to do so.

Sincerely,

Ben Mauntler
