Dear Kindergarten and First Grade Families,

In our classroom this week first graders were introduced to a new story in their basal series, One Red Rooster.  Kindergarten continued their alphabet study with the letters Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll and Mm.  Some of your child’s graded work has come home today.  The letters mean the following: S+ achieved, S progressing successfully, S-   Beginning to develop, U   Experiencing difficulty.  First graders continue to bring homework home each day.  Please be sure you are going through the directions with them, looking it over when they have finished, and signing the homework sheet.

We took our first trip to the Onekama Public Library yesterday.  We did not check out books yet.  An orange library card form has come home with this letter today.  If your child does not have a library card please fill-out the orange card and return it to school.  If your child has a library card please bring it to school so they have it for our library trips.  In a couple weeks we will return to the library with our cards and check out books.  Miss Jane sometimes has seasonal crafts for us to do too.  It is a very nice experience for us!!

In this week’s folder I have included a schedule for special person of the week.  When it is your child’s turn to be the special person of the week there will be a letter with instructions inside your child’s Thursday folder.

Picture day is Tuesday, Oct. 2nd. Please pick a package and send your child to school with the envelope and a check for the amount of the package.

Colder weather is already starting!  Please be sure your child is dressed appropriately to go outside for recess.  We only stay in if it is raining.

I finished the master holiday party volunteer list.  Those of you who signed up to help or bring in something have a copy of the list.  Please keep it handy so you know what to provide on those days.  Thank-you for your help!

I have enclosed a wish list today.  If any of you are willing to donate an item or two from the list we would really appreciate it.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

            Kindergarten

  1. Can you tell me 3-5 things that begin with the following letters? Ii, Jj, Kk, Ll, and Mm
