Dear Kindergarten and First Grade Families,

Our shared reading time with kindergarten this week consisted of learning the Little Bo-Peep rhyme and learning long e sound words.  We have completed our Nursery Rhyme unit and the kindergarteners are bringing home all their rhymes and activities we have done.  Please ask them to read their rhymes to you from time to time.  The first graders read a story called George Shrinks.  They completed a writing activity about something that would be easy to do if they were tiny and something that would be hard for them to do if they were tiny.  They also wrote about their favorite part.

We completed our first grade science unit on water and the water cycle.  This week we have been studying matter and properties of matter.

Our daily activities for reading month have been fun!  We have been reading so much!  Thank-you for participating!  Your last Pizza Hut coupon is attached.  Please congratulate your child on a great month full of reading!

It was nice to see some of you at conferences last night.  If you were unable to attend your child’s report card is in the Thursday folder.  Please contact me if you have any questions or concerns.

The first graders will be taking the Iowa Test of the Basic Skills from April 14th to 19th.  Please be sure your child gets plenty of rest and eats a healthy breakfast during that week.

Our Spring Break is next week.  There is no school March 31st through April 7th.  School will resume on Tuesday, April 8th.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

Kindergarten

1)      Can you tell me a long e sound word?  Can you use it in a sentence?

First Grade

1)      Can you tell me the 3 forms of matter?

2)      Can you find some matter in our house and tell me its properties?

Have a wonderful Spring Break!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lyman
