Dear Kindergarten and First Grade Families,

Things are going very well in our classroom.  The students are getting to know one another and we have a nice classroom community started.  Our volunteer schedule will begin next week Monday, September 17th.  Those parents that signed up to volunteer in our classroom have an orange schedule with this letter.  If you did not sign up and are still interested in helping us out, please let me know and I can add you to the schedule.

I would like everyone to know that I have many cats and kittens at my in-laws house.  They are all very sweet and adore adults and kids.  If anyone is interested in having one please let me know.  They have way too many and would like to give some away.

We will have show – and – tell each Friday.  If your child would like to bring in something from home to share with the class they may do so on Fridays.

Along with this letter I have included a book order.  Please look and see if there are any books your child might like.  Fill-out the order form and make checks payable to Scholastic.  Please return your order to school by Friday, Sept. 21st.

Some of you still have to sign the permission slip that went home.  We take various trips throughout the year and this saves us from sending a new permission slip each time we take a trip.  If you have not signed I have included a new slip.  Please sign and return to me asap.

Many of you signed up to help or provide things for our holiday parties.  If you did not sign up on the list I sent home, but would still like to help on those days in some way, let me know.  I will send the master list of help and snack providers on party days next week.

I am working on getting a Kindergarten and First grade curriculum map copied to give to all of you.  Please be looking for that to come home next week.  I did give you My Child As A Learner.  Please fill-out the form and return it to me.  Thank-you!

We have begun some of our academic work this week.  Kindergarten worked on the letters Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd and Ee.  First grade completed a variety of activities that went along with the story Moonbear’s Books by Frank Asch.

I think we finally have an enrichment schedule that will work for us.  It has come home with this letter today.

Questions to ask your child today are the following:

            Kindergarten

1)     Can you tell me 2 things that start with Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd and Ee?

2)     Can you count by 1’s up to 30?

First Grade

1)     What types of books does Moonbear like to read?

2)     Can you tell me the setting, character and ending of

Moonbear’s books?

Have a great weekend!

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lyman
