Dear Kindergarten and First Grade Families,

During our shared reading time this week the kindergarteners learned to read The Old Woman Who Lived in a Shoe.  They learned some blend and digraph words and they practiced reading and writing –all word family words.  The first graders learned to read There’s an alligator under my bed.  We talked about things they do when they are scared and cannot fall asleep.  They completed a story map, learned new words from the story and described their favorite part of the story.

In math the first graders worked on their mid-year assessment.  They will be graded and sent home next week.  Anything your child had trouble with should be a concept you continue to practice at home.  We will also make sure your child is getting extra practice with unknown concepts here at school.  The kindergarteners have been practicing their counting skills as well as doing number recognition activities.

Tomorrow is a dress-up day!  Please help your child dress as their favorite character from a book.  Please look at your reading month calendar for next week.  Tuesday your child should wear a shirt for us to read.  Thursday your child needs to bring in a newspaper article to share.

Yesterday we walked to the Onekama Public Library.  Our next visit will be Wednesday, March 26th.  Many students were unable to check out books today because of books they still have.  Please return the books so they can check out books at our next visit!

All the animal projects have been completed and we have already begun writing our books!  The projects are so great to see!  The kids did a great job and were so creative in how they made their models of their animals.  All the animals will be on our website soon so please check them out!

I sent home a book order today.  Please fill-out the form and send it back to school with a check to Scholastic by Friday, March 14th.
