Mrs. Lyman's Parent Letter

Thursday, January 24th, 2008

Dear Kindergarten and First grade Families,

This week in first grade students read a story called Flower Garden.  They completed a variety of literacy activities which went along with the story.  In math they were introduced to the base ten blocks and pace value, as well as greater then and less than.

Kindergarten students learned another nursery rhyme this week.  They learned Cackle, Cackle, Mother Goose and the rhyming pairs in the verses.  In math they continue to practice addition and subtraction and they were introduced to the nickel.

We still have more days left in this month!  Please bring in any non-perishable food item you are willing to donate for our food pantry.  Thank-you to those that have already donated.  Every bit counts!

Second quarter report cards have come home today.  Please be aware that if a skill was left blank it means I have not taught it yet.  There are no conferences during this quarter so if you have any questions please contact me.

Good Behavior ski day is taking place on Tuesday, February 12.  Everyone has gotten their forms turned in and we are ready to go.  Your child will need a sack lunch on that day.  Also be sure they are dressed for a full day outside.  This means many layers and water proof gloves and snow pants.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

          Kindergarten

1)      Can you tell me some words that end in ill?

First Grade

1)      Can you use the following words in a sentence: get, after, great, look, their, us

2)      Can you tell me which numbers are in the tens place in the numbers 56, 14, & 85?

Sincerely,

Mrs. Lyman
