Mrs. Lyman's Parent Letter

for Thursday, December 6th, 2007

Dear Kindergarten and First Grade Families,

Our shared reading time this week consisted of a variety of activities about The Jacket I wear in the Snow for Kindergarten and On top of Spaghetti for first grade.  The first graders completed their unit 3 assessment.  Please look over their test and continue to practice the concepts that are difficult for your child.  You received 2 copies: 1 that has their grade and 1 that was corrected in class.

We have started our Holidays around the world unit.  We traveled to Israel and learned about Hanukkah.  We made a menorah and played the dreidel game.

I chose a personal items ornament from the giving tree for our class to do.  Please bring in as many items as you can to help an Onekama family in need.  Items needed are shampoo, toothpaste, toothbrushes, bar soap, hand soap, deodorant, tin foil, plastic wrap garbage bags, etc.

Our holiday party will be on Thursday, December 20th.  I have an appointment in Grand Rapids on the 21st so I will not be in school.  I would like the kids to do a book exchange.  Please find a children’s book for 5 dollars or less.  Be sure it is appropriate for a boy or a girl.  Bring it wrapped with your child’s name on it on or before the 20th

As far as I am concerned, I do love gifts, however, please think of the class as a whole.  I would rather receive items needed for our classroom.  We can always use more reading or math games, new books, crayons, markers, etc.  If you are considering buying a gift, let it be one we can enjoy as a class.

Your November Book It coupons have come home!  Congratulate your child on all their reading and keep up the reading at home!

I sent a book order home today.  Please look it over and if you want some books turn in your order with a check by Thursday, December, 14th.  Hopefully, I can get the books by Christmas.  Unfortunately, I cannot guarantee it.  Sorry, but I kept forgetting to send it!!

Our holiday Christmas program is next week Wednesday, December 12th.  Our class needs to wear white.  Please bring your child to our classroom at 6:45.
