Mrs. Lyman's Parent Letter

Thursday, December 13th, 2007

Dear Kindergarten and First Grade Families,

Well, this week started off on the wrong foot with me being VERY under the weather both Monday and Tuesday.  However, when I returned yesterday the kindergarteners began completing literacy activities to go along with the story The Snowy Day.  The First grade story this week is The Foot Book.  We have also continued our study of different holidays from around the world.  Last week we discussed Hanukkah.  This week we are talking about the Mexican tradition, La Posada.  It gives us the opportunity to introduce more Spanish words.  We will be learning numbers and colors in Spanish.

Somehow one of our students’ snowpants have disappeared.  The snowpants are navy blue Basic Edition brand.  If you mistakenly have these please return them ASAP.  We don’t understand where they could’ve ended up, but we can’t find them anywhere here at school.  HELP!  J

Christmas party plans have changed.  All the elementary students will be going to the Vogue Theatre in Manistee to see a movie on Friday, December 21st.  The movie is a nice treat for them and serves as our party.  We will not be having a party where we do crafts, have a big snack, etc.  I do still want to do a book exchange though so please bring in your child’s wrapped book to share with a classroom friend before Thursday, December 20th.

I will not be at school on Friday, December 21st.  Please help me by turning in your permission slip and money for your child to see the movie by Thursday, December 20th.  The sooner it is turned in the better so I can have everything organized for Mr. Grant, the guest teacher that day.

Please bring in a small to medium gift bag.  This will help us with a little something to give to you for Christmas. J  Have your child bring the bag by Wednesday, December 19th.  Also, I am still collecting personal items for a family in need here at Onekama School.  Please donate shampoo, soap, toothpaste, toothbrushes, deodorant, etc. by next week Wednesday, December 19th.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

Kindergarten

  1. Can you tell me 3-5 words that begin with the tr blend?

First Grade

  1. How many inches are on the ruler we have been measuring with?

  2. Can you tell me some opposites that were featured in The Foot Book?

Enjoy your weekend!!

        Sincerely,

Mrs. Lyman
