Mrs. Niederstadt's Class

October 18, 2007

Dear Parents,

As you may have noticed by our last several Thursday Folders, I’ve recruited help from the class.  I used to stuff them by myself, but it takes too much of my preparation time.  Now students help me pass out papers and put them into their own Thursday Folder.  This is a great time saving for me.  Students are supposed to check each paper before putting it in their folder, but some papers do get into the wrong folder.  If you get another student’s paper, then please send it to school in your child’s folder.   I’ll be sure it gets to the right owner.

On Wednesday we will walk to the Onekama Village Fire Department along with Mrs. Lyman’s K/1 class.  Mr. Mathieu will give us a tour of the facility and discuss fire safety.  We will leave around 12:30 p.m. and should return around 2:30ish.  If your schedule permits, please join us.

On Thursday the Onekama Public Library is hosting a Halloween Story Hour at 3:30 p.m.  Costumes are optional, but fun is a must.  There will be arts and crafts.  Hope to see you there!

Our Halloween party is Wednesday, October 31st at 11:45 to 3:00 p.m. Students’ costumes need to come to school in a bag with their name on it.  If your child has a weapon as part of his/her costume, it needs to stay at home.  The following people have volunteered Kathy Buckner, Charity Domres, Gail Hopwood, Destiny LaFleur, Rachel Lowe, Mary Madsen, Jennifer Redman, Carla Soper and Heidi Wisniski.  You will be in charge of an art project so please come to the room at 11:30 a.m. for instructions Kathy Buckner (cheese & crackers), Beki Cook, Gail Hopwood (carrots & dip or celery & peanut butter), Linda Showalter (mini cupcakes) and Carla Soper (rice crispy treats) are providing treats.  Leslie Acton, Helen Johnson and Heidi Wisniski are providing drinks.  Shelly VanVoorst is providing cups and plates.

Enclosed is your child’s September writing journal.  First graders are required to write at least two sentences and second graders are to write at least five sentences.  Inventive spelling is recommended, but our word wall words need to be spelled correctly.  Many students have “unfinished” on their daily writings, but you need not worry yet.  The first month of school is learning routines.  It takes time to learn the routine and to filter out the new noises in the classroom.

The following are dates that you may want to add to your calendar:

  • ¨      School Store – October 23 at 2:00 p.m.

  • ¨      Boy Scout Meeting (1st grade) – October 25 at 3:00-4:30 p.m.
