Mrs. Niederstadt's Class

May 23, 2008

Dear Parents,

There is no school on Monday due to Memorial Day.  Have a safe and happy holiday.

On Tuesday we will participate in Good Behavior Field Day.  It is from 12:00 – 2:30 p.m. on the football field.  In order to be prepared for the weather, you may want to send in a coat/sweater, water bottle and hat with your child.  Also it would be a good day to have sun block on.  The Lions Club will provide hot dogs, popcorn, and pop for an afternoon snack.  Volunteers help make this day a great success.  If you are able to lead an event/activity, then please contact the office.

On Thursday students need to bring an extra bag.  They will take their belongings home.

Friday is our last day of school.  After lunch we were supposed to go to gym class, but we are unable to do so due to the high school exam schedule.  Instead we will pack our Friday Folders.  Around 12:30 p.m. I would like to walk to Annie’s and Teddy’s.  I spoke with them earlier this week.  They have a few hoops to jump through such as Board of Health and such before they can open for business.  I will call again the early part of next week to see how their progressing.  If they are open, then please send in $2.00 (no more than $2.00 please) for your child to purchase some ice cream.  First grade students had money in a money holder to use for their ice cream, but second grade students do not.  To make things easier, I’ve decided to send home first grade students money from their money holders on Thursday along with their other belongings.  Plus many students have lost some or most of their money throughout the school year.  If they are not open, then would someone like to purchase popsicles for our class?  If so, then let me know.  Afterwards we will go to the Onekama Village Park to spend the remainder of our day.  We will return back to the school at 2:30 p.m.  Please note that your child’s report card will come home in his/her Friday folder.  If you have any questions, then please feel free to call me on Monday until noon.

After school today, the elementary staff along with Mrs. Hagen will have a meeting about student numbers and teacher assignments.  I hope we will have some resolution to help you make an informed decision on your child’s education for next school year.  On Tuesday I will send home an additional parent letter with the details of the meeting.

Enclosed is your child’s spelling test and spelling graph.  The first grade test consists of ninety words that your child should know by the end of first grade.  Second grade has 93 words total.  Your child took this test in January.  Any misspelled words were your child’s individualized spelling words.  Recently I gave this test again to see our growth.  Most students are above average.  First grade average is 70 words.  Second grade average is 68 words.  During the summer you may want to practice any misspelled words.

I would like to take this opportunity to thank our classroom helpers: Mrs. Johnson (Mondays), Mr. Domres (Mondays), Mrs. Lowe (Tuesday), Mrs. Showalter (Wednesdays), Mrs. Domres (Thursday), Mrs. Madsen (Thursday) and Mrs. Acton (Fridays).  They have been wonderful helpers throughout the year.  I appreciate them taking time out of their busy schedules for us.  Next week our schedule will be winding down.  There were be cleaning, packing and organizing days so our classroom helpers will not be needed.  THANK YOU SO MUCH AGAIN!!

The following dates you may want to add to your calendar:
