Mrs. Niederstadt's Class

May 16, 2008

Dear Parents,

Yesterday we went to Moomer’s Ice Cream in Traverse City.  As always everyone had a wonderful time.  The weather was perfect and the company was even better.  We had 16 parent and grandparent chaperones in just our classroom.  As we were at Moomer’s, we learned that they are in the “Final Four” for Good Morning America Weekend’s Ice Cream Challenge – Best Ice Cream in America.  The top four will be featured on ABC’s Sunday edition this Sunday, May 18th at 8-9 am.  After the show America can vote online at www.moomers.com or www.abcnews.com through Saturday, May 24th.  They will announce the winner on their show on Saturday, May 24th.

The end of the year is near.  Students need to turn in their school library books, public library books and spring pictures.  Please check around for any of these items.  If you are not sure, then I have a list in my classroom.

Also we would like to take care of all of our birthdays.  Each year I like to celebrate summer birthdays too.  On Monday we will celebrate Sylvia N.’s birthday (May 18), Tuesday is Erica’s (June 26), Wednesday is Ben J.’s (July 24) and Thursday is Colin’s real birthday.  The following week we’ll celebrate Aric’s birthday (August 12) on Wednesday and Thursday is Sydnee’s (May 25).  If your child would like to bring in a treat, then we’ll have it for our afternoon snack.  Also the lower elementary will sing “Happy Birthday” in the cafeteria.  This way we’ve celebrated everyone’s birthday at school.

On Monday the last book order is due.  Please make your check payable to Scholastic Book Club.  Also students will be going outside to participate in gym class with Mr. Bromley.  The gym is being used for storage for our summer construction project.  Please be sure to dress your child appropriately

Next Friday we will have our annual Buddy Reading Beach Party.  First grade students will be at the Onekama Village Park from 11:00 – 2:30.  Your child needs to bring a sack lunch, water bottle, sun block, hat, jacket/sweater, towel, and beach toys in a backpack or duffel bag.  Please be sure your child’s name is on all items.  The cafeteria is selling sack lunches for $1.75.  If you are interested, then please send the money in with your child.  The children will not be allowed to wade in the water for safety reasons.  I hope to see you there!

Second grade students will be going on their field trip to Ludington State Park with Mr. Mauntler’s class.  The bus will leave at 8:10.  Students will need a sack lunch, water bottle, extra snacks, boots, hooded sweatshirts/coat, jeans, extra pants, and extra socks.  Please pack all these items into your child’s backpack for the trip.  Currently we have two chaperones: Mrs. Corey and Mrs. Somerville for the field trip.  If you are able to help, then we would love to have you there.

The following dates you may want to add to your calendar:
