Mrs. Niederstadt's Class

March 21, 2008

Dear Parents,

Enclosed is your child’s report card.  Please read it over carefully.  I am available for conferences next Tuesday the 25th at 3-7 p.m.  If you would like to make an appointment, then please call or email me.

Also enclosed is second grade’s last theme (magazine) test.  They did much better on this test than the previous test.  The average score was 88%.  I was pleased with the written comprehension portions.

Today was Camp Read-a-Lot.  It was more like Camp Eat-a-Lot.  Students enjoyed the many snack donations.  Thank you!!  I’ve already sent pictures to our web master.  Soon she’ll have the web page ready for viewing.

In social studies second grade students will begin Geography with Mrs. Eichberger.  Students will construct and use maps of local communities, and compare physical and human characteristics of Onekama with another community.  These are new Grade Level Content Expectations (GLCE) and are not found on our report card yet.

Throughout the week we’ll continue to celebrate March is reading month.  Monday is Non-Fiction Day.  Students will read expository tests during D.E.A.R.  Tuesday is Old Favorites Day.  Students can bring to school one of their favorite books from when they were little to share.  Wednesday is Read My Hat Day.  Students can wear a hat for everyone to read.   Thursday is Reading Jogs Your Mind Day.  Students can wear jogging suits and running shoes.  On Friday Mrs. Hagen will read to our classroom at 9:25 a.m.

I will be out of the classroom on Thursday and Friday.  Kent Myers will be my substitute.  Due to my absence there will be no homework, spelling words, or Friday Folder next week.  Have a safe and happy spring break.  I’ll see everyone back on Tuesday, April 8th.

During the month of April our classroom will collect items for the food pantry.  We will collect until Wednesday, April 23rd.  All items collected will be distributed to families in our area.

I would like to thank those who brought in ziploc bags for our classroom.
