Mrs. Niederstadt's Class

December 14, 2007

Dear Parents,

Your child needs to bring in a Christmas gift bag on Monday.  We will put your Christmas gifts in it.  It needs to be the size of a piece of paper (8 ˝ X 11).  If you have extra, then you are more than welcome to send them in.

Next week we will have gingerbread activities throughout the week with Mrs. Brown’s fourth-fifth grade class.  They will focus on art, reading, writing and mathematics.  On Monday we will make gingerbread cookies in the morning and eat them for snack in the afternoon.  Your child needs to wear appropriate clothing for making cookies.

On Monday all items for The Giving Tree project need to be turned in.  If you have a tag, then bring your wrapped item to the office.  If you are donating a personal item, then send it in with your child.

On Friday we will visit the Vogue Theatre for a showing of Alvin and The Chipmunks.  We will leave at 12:00 and should return around 2:45 p.m.  Each student will receive popcorn and bottle of water.  Your child will not need an afternoon snack.  Parents and siblings are welcome, but you must provide your own transportation.  All students will ride the bus to and from the theatre.  The cost is $5.00 per person.  For more information, please read the enclosed letter.  You will need to return the permission slip along with your child’s money.  Please attach the money to your child’s permission slip.

The following are dates that you may want to add to your calendar:

  • Teacher In-Service (No School) – January 18

  • Good Behavior Ski Day (1st/2nd, 4th and 5th grades) – February 13

  • Valentine’s Day Party – February 14

  • Teacher In-Service – February 15

  • Winter Break – February 18

Winter is here!! Please be sure that your child has proper snow clothing that includes winter coat, snow pants, boots, hat, and gloves.  Students will need to keep a dry pair of shoes at school, because they need to take off their snow boots after recess.  This will avoid us sitting on wet, dirty carpet.  If your child has extra snow pants and boots, then they are welcome to keep them at school for the week.  On Fridays all belongings will be sent home for a good cleaning as will our cubbies.  Also due to the cold, wet weather students will go to the gymnasium for lunch recess everyday throughout the winter season.

Next week there is no homework, parent letter or Friday Folder.  Have a safe and happy holiday.  Our Christmas vacation begins on Monday, December 24th and school resumes on Wednesday, January 2nd.  During Christmas break look at our web pages located at: http://www.onekama.k12.mi.us/e2008/g1-2/index.htm. When students return from break, we will have a magazine test.  Please be sure your child is to school on time and has had a good breakfast.

Yesterday Mr. Brandis put up our THIRD pencil sharpener in our classroom this year.  Students have been abusing our sharpeners by sharpening the eraser end of their pencils.  Until further notice students are unable to sharpen their own pencils.  My classroom volunteers and I will sharpen your child’s pencil.  It would be helpful for your child to have a personal pencil sharper inside their desk.  This would make a good stocking stuffer.

Warmly,

Shantel
