Mr. K.'s Kindergarten class
dissects owl pellets as part of
their science class
Mr. K. explains the process of owl pellet dissection. He shows a chart with various bones they might find.

Colin said, "I liked it. I found a head bone from a mouse. D'Angelo found one too. It was only this big. It came from a really really little mouse.."

"Poor little mouse," said D'Angelo. "I found claws and other stuff too."

Mr. K. demonstrates how to take apart the pellet. He shows how to use the tweezers. Students can hardly wait to touch the fur and bones.

Mr. K. reminds the boys and girls to keep their hands away from their face while working.

Samantha said, "I liked doing it. The tweezers are hard so I used my hand. I found a bird head and other bones and legs too."

Morley told me, "The bones got in the
owl pellet 'cause the owl caught it,
ate it, and spit it out. I found bones
and fur."
Hope found bones too. She said, "I showed my dad and little sister. My dad said they were nice. My little sister can not talk. Not yet."
Amanda said, "Owls eat mice and birds
so they can have food."

Maggie agreed but added, "They spit
out the owl pellets after they eat
mice and birds. I found the bones."

Kelsey said she learned to use tweezers
 to get bones and fur.

Sylvia liked finding the bones. She said,
" I liked using tweezers and finding
bones."

Jody told me, "Guess what? My mom thought it was icky."

Jarrett said, "I can't remember everything I found. Just lots of bones, I guess.  I took them home."

Katelyn said, "It's hard to use tweezers.
I got bones. I took them home.
I showed my Mom and Dad and sister.
They said, 'That's nice'."

Colin also informed me that D'Angelo
was a good listener. Colin said D'Angelo knew lots of stuff, but he always
raised his hand to talk!

Just in time for clean up, the repairman came to install a "touchless soap dispenser". Now everyone can have clean hands for lunch.
