Miss Schultz Parent Letter

Dear Kindergarten and First Grade Families,

There is a Cub Scout meeting in the cafeteria at 6:00 p.m. tonight for boys and parent volunteers.  If you are unable to attend but are interested, then call Phil Coryell at 889-5620.

In this week’s Thursday Folder some of your child’s graded work is enclosed.  There are four grades given, they are S+=Achieved, S=Progressing Successfully, S-=Beginning to Develop and U=Experiencing Difficulty.

First graders have started their homework responsibilities.  Each morning they come in and write the day’s assignment on their homework sheet.  They are given the homework and then they are responsible for getting it completed with your guidance and returning it to me with your signature.  Please be looking for homework folders on Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday and Thursday.  There is no homework on Friday’s.

On Saturday our class will walk in the homecoming parade.  Students should be dressed in their favorite Onekama clothing or blue and gold.  Balloons will be provided for each student to carry in the parade.  It begins at 11:00 a.m.  We will meet in the Village Park at 10:30 a.m.  The homecoming game is at 2:00 p.m.  against Ashley.  Listen for me at about 1:55.  I will be singing the National Anthem.

All students continue to progress in the areas of language, writing and math.  Kindergarten has studied the letters Aa, Bb, Cc, Dd, Ee, and Ff.  They also practice counting on a daily basis.  First grade has completed various activities that go along with three of our Houghton Mifflin reading series and are just about to take the “Unit 1 Checking Progress.”

I have had some questions about show-and-tell.  Unfortunately, with the classroom situation the way it is I am unable to find time for that activity.  However, I know the children love to share things and tell stories about what they do away from school.  Whenever we have extra time I do make sure I let kids have some chit-chat time.

We have a new student.  Her name is Christine Zuchowski.  She is a Kindergartener.  She lives with her family in Arcadia.  We are happy to have Christine in our class!

I would like to send home a class list with phone numbers so the kids can get together with classmates outside of school.  If you do not want your phone number given out please let me know.  If I do not hear from anyone by the end of next week I will compile the list and get that out.

Please be sure your child comes to school with a coat.  The weather is unpredictable right now and we need to be sure they stay warm enough when they are out for recess.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

          Kindergarten

1)     Can you tell me a word that begins with Ee?  Ff?

2)     Can your write an uppercase and lowercase Aa?  Bb?  Cc?  Dd?  Ee?  Ff?

First Grade

1)     Can you use tally marks to show 5?  6?  7?  8?

2)     What are our 5 senses?

3)     Can you count backwards from 30?

Enjoy the weekend!  I look forward to seeing you at the parade!

Sincerely,

 Kelly Schultz
