Miss Schultz Parent Letter

Dear Kindergarten and First Grade Families,

Both groups continue to plug along at their academics.  I did some rearranging of seats and it seems to be helping a great deal.  For the most part they are all focused and quiet during important work times.

Kindergarten continues to work on the letters of the alphabet.  This week they have done Gg, Hh, Ii and Jj.  The first grade Houghton Mifflin Series book this week was When this box is full.  They have done a variety of activities that are linked to the story.  The first grade class also completed their Unit 1 checking progress for math.  All of them need more practice with tally marks.  I will continue practicing here at school, but any reinforcement you can do at home will also be helpful.

You have gotten a book order in today’s folder.  Please choose some books for your child.  The order is due next Friday the 13th.

Tomorrow we will be visiting the Onekama Fire Station with Mrs. N’s class.  Mr. Mathieu, a volunteer firefighter will talk with the students about fire safety.  If you would like to walk over with us and share the experience you are more than welcome.  We will be leaving school after lunch at about 11:45 and will return at about 1:30.

On Tuesday we will begin our special person of the week activity.  Each week we will honor a student from our class.  Their pictures and information will be displayed on our All About Me bulletin board.

There will be no school on Monday due to a teacher in-service.

Questions to ask your child this week are the following:

 Kindergarten

1)     Can you tell me a word that begins with Gg?  Hh?  Ii?  Jj?

2)     Can you write an uppercase and lowercase Gg?  Hh?  Ii?  Jj?

First Grade

1)     Can you tell me about the four seasons?

2)     How high can you count by 1’s?

3)     Can you write our first and last name in your best handwriting?

Sincerely,

Miss Schultz
